Is the difference between division 2 and 2b the age of the players? and Is the superliga's B team like the MLS's reserve team? and How about 2b promotions? and What are the rules for player changes between the B team to A team?
The 2nd Division B is an entirely different division than division 2. The main difference is that Division 2 (also called "Honra") is a national championship, while in Division 2B there are 3 regional championships. So we have Div. 2B - North, Div. 2B Center and Div. 2B South. This is simply a way of lowering traveling costs for these clubs, who are mostly very small and poor clubs. The winner of each Region from 2B is promoted to Division 2 "Honra". Some of our main club's B teams are currently participating in Division 2B championships, but they can get relegated or promoted like any other team.
-----------------------------------Superliga---------------------- --------------------------------------|--------------------------- ---------------------------2ª Divisão de Honra------------------ ---------------------_______________|_____________------------ ---------------------|----------------|--------------|------------ ------------------2ª B (Norte)---2ª B (Centro)----2ª B (Sul)-------- ----------------_____|______________|_____________|_____------ ----------------|--------|-------|-------|----------|------|------ ---------------3ª A-----3ª B----3ªC----3ªD-------3ªE-----3ªF----- the structure looks sort of like this.... hope it's understandable.
Eaxctly why I said the had to rename the divisions in another post Liga IIB makes absolutely no sense unless it was for reserve teams in the Liga de Honra (which they're aren't any) and the 3rd division is no better.
2b is the actual 3rd division for the mens leagues but they call it 2b In fairness the english leagues are no better as the league of champions is the second division and league 1 is the 3 third divsion.
What would happen if by some off chance all the teams relegated from Division 2 "Honra" are from the south? Would they have to redistribute the whole 2B set up or place the relegated teams in different regions forcing them to sacrifice more travel money than the other teams in the region giving them a disadvantage?
his correct, they just moved the closest teams, let's say usually the team from the central of the country, they usually get shaft from North to South or vice versa
So since these leagues have the potential to chane their make up each season it is possible for a team's fiercest rival to change their region with the chance of them never returning to the region causing the the rivalry to fall apart.
32 professional mens teams in Portugal is still going to absorb alot of money away from the junior division clubs and thats where the money needs to be. And how about the foreign players in the 2nd division taking jobs away from Portuguese players. Still alot of room for improvement.
But by the rules, they are communitary players... like angolan, mozanbican and other Portuguese speacker players... About the changes in regions: Mafra plays in 2B Centre, like Odivelas did. But Now, Odivelas plays in 2B ... South!!! They only divide the 60 participants in 3 regions, and the azores and madeira's teams are allways in the South.
Resendes also asked about the ages of the players: There are no restrictions for any player in the national senior championships (Districtal leagues to Superliga); In the "B" teams its also the same thing. A young "B" team player can be on the "A" team when the coach want to, and sometimes, players from "A" teams are in the "B", because of training programs (Before serious injuries) or other reasons...
A little correction, the B teams can get relegated but they can´t be promoted, to the Liga de Honra. By the way FPF wants to end with all B teams until 2008/2009 when the new structure of 2 division B and 3 division takes place...
Não fazia ideia Thanks for the correction. And I agree with the end of B teams. They don't serve the purpose for which they were created IMO.
Well you are right but in our case, lets see players who had their chance in FC Porto B, Helder Postiga, Hugo Almeida, Ricardo Costa, Manuel José(now in Boavista), Bruno Moraes (improved on the B team), Bruno Vale, Pedro Ribeiro, Ivanildo, just to mention the ones who had more success. 4 of them already played for the NT...
So the 2b Division is a mens league thats being used by some teams as a substitute for a Junior league and thats not good. Porto's B team players are between the ages of 17 and 23 and really should be playing in a financially strong junior system. The 2b division appears to be causing more harm than good for the development of young players because there's simply isn't enough money to support all these mens teams and a strong junior system.
You are right, but the problem is not the young players... The problem is that some dirigents want to promote their teams to "ª Honra, and dont want to think in how get money. They just spend the money, and then they see what is going on... Therea re many players earning money, when ofiicially, 2B and 3ª Divisões are not-professional... The clubs are really bad, here! And the directors prefer Brazilians to the portuguese... the problem is that FPF only want to receive the money from the clubs, and dont want to resolve this kind of problems... FINALLY; I Dont agrre with the end of "B" Teams, but... the decision was made...
I hope I answered your questions about the ages, if not, other eg: When a player is picked up to a senior squad, he can play in his junior squad, but when he is 21 years, what can he do? continue in his squad, waiting for an opportunity, be loaned or... move to other club... In Senior competitions, there are no Age laws: A player can be senior at 16... like what happened to Salgueiros...
