i want this thread to focus on their player roster (which inst official yet). i here rui costa is going.

i also want the thread to focus on where i can get televised matches, and on what channels. i needa cheer them on from my TV!!!

    FORCA PORTUGAL ALL THE WAY.

so far, they are set to play, Iraq, Costa Rica, and Moracco. after that, the winner of that division plays the winner of the other 4 divisions. so 1/4 finals, hopefully portugal will be the winner of their group. after the quaters they have the bronze match, and then the silver gold match. as things are set up now, the bronze match is on Aug. 27 and the Gold/Silver match is on Aug. 28

the matches for portugal's group (group d) are:

    Portugal v Iraq Aug. 12
    Portugal v Maracoo Aug. 15
Portugal v Costa Rica Aug. 18

i have heard that the most promissing basic cable station to catch olympic soccer is Telemundo.

please post any info on the player roster and which stations will carry the match.

Lol..i was gonna reply on the other thread but I guess Ill do it on here.

Im looking at the broadcasting info for the NBC olympics (NBColympics.com) and it doesnt have the actual schedule yet, just the trials, but they are gonna put it up this month apparently. I think you are right about telemundo being the channel to see soccer because of the mexican soccer craze but Im still hoping for other channels that I actually have with dish network (they dont offer telemundo at all unless you get the spanish package with like a billion other channels I could care less about).

It says on the site that this year they are gonna set a record for broadcasting almost everything, which is great. They are going to broadcast the first womens game on MSNBC so maybe they will play soccer games on the regular channels too...

It looks to me like MSNBC and Bravo have quite a bit of broadcasting so maybe we can see everything on there. I hope so, we have to see them win the gold!!!! (knock on wood)

    VIVA PORTUGAL!!!

As for portugals team, I see what you mean on the Telemundo website about Rui Costa. It would be nice to see the golden generation at the olympics for one last chance, but they are not the team I prefer to see there. I would prefer a team with maniche, ricardo carvalho, valente, or miguel. The younger players that are must haves are Ronaldo, Quaresma, and Carlitos. I am not very familiar with the sub 21 players bue the above three are definites. Only problem will be with the clubs that own the players because they are already "queixar" LOL!

Telemundo is basically showing all the Latin American teams. The problem is that everyday all the matches kick off at the same time and they are choosing to show Mexico, Paraguay, Costa Rica, and Argentina as their primary games.

how does the match up work???

will it be the 4 from each of the groups going head to head, then the champions of each group, then the 2 winners, then the silver gold match??

    in otherwords:

    16>4>2>1???

explain the match up and how the eliminations will work...

    one more thing...

i dont think we have to worry about iraq, maroco, mali, ghana, or paraguay. they are mostly backwater teams. i think we should poison some well water in order to make sure portugal wins. anyone that lives near costa rica, could you kindly burn some houses down and take player's family memebers hostage...just for insurance reasons... :D

I read that Quim is one of the goalkeepers being considered to bring to the Olympics. Benfica has asked the Federation not to call Moreira, because they want him for the Champions League qualification games and the SuperTaca. I think they are fine with Quim going (which makes me think Moreira is still the 1st goalie for Benfica :) ).

quim ehy...*checks his stats via google*

ahh, yes. he'll do. i think the only way we can loose is if either

    A) we get overconfident and get killed by the latinos
    B) the good players are held back by their clubs
C)i dont get to cheer them on from my TV

it looks like Baia will be the starting goalkeeper and one of the players over 23, Quim could be the second keeper

i feel like playing the phsycic so here are my predictions for the 2 finalists from each group:

    Group A: Greece and Mexico

    Group B: Paraguay and Italy

Group C: Argentina and Serbia & Montenegro

Group D: Portugal and Costa Rica

after that i am afraid to say who will advance from the group finals, but i will anyway. here they are, the final 4:

    Mexico, Italy, Argentina, and Portugal
(i will be chomping at the bit when they play Costa Rica, but i am confident in our youths and in the seniors' experience)

then the final 2, Mexico and Argentina
(i hope i'm wrong, but we can atleast hope for the bronze)

post ur thoughts guys and give me reasons to believe!

Don't think we have to worry about Paraguay? They just beat Brazil 2-1 in the Copa America including having to play out the stretch with 10 men. I think we need to learn from our mistae of underestimating Greece, TWICE, and play every game like we are playing Italy or Brazil.

yeah. thats what i'm hoping for too.

its been my experience that right when you think your team has the prize they fall flat on their face at the finishline. thats what the eagles do for me and i will pray portugal learned from greece.

i hope we get gold, but all i can do is wait, and with 28 games be for the days start, it will be a long wait. (and its already driving my nerves off a cliff) all we can do is be supportive.

(i feel like getting ready to either cry or kill something. they cant loose this time, atleast not like they did with greece. telemundo says they have alot of talent and that they are looking pretty good for the olympics. i hope they bring home either bronze, silver, or gold. they deserve it. they are a damn good team.)

Ya, I'm new to these forums. I just discovered them. I've been at the soccerpulse.com forums for a while now, but there aren't as many Portuguese people on that board. The board for Portugal is very slow. That's why I decided to come here as well.
