Portugal might play a game this year here in the U.S. (Even though porto's president pinto da costa seems to be against it). I found an article about it: http://www.record.pt/noticia.asp?id=204411&idCanal=5
Pinto da Costa is mad at Scolari, he my use the B team in the final of the portuguese cup or forfeit the game. the games against the USA and Mexico will be played on the 7 and 11, and Porto could boycott the games I don't think Portugal will be playing with the 6 Porto players, they will be playing for the Portuguese Cup final June 15, only if Porto will be playing the final of the Portuguese Cup with the B team.
Yah...portugal would want the full team to get revenge againt the states!!! I dont think its gonna happen though...that there gonan play the USA and Mexico
I do believe that the Portugal x U.S. game will have a fully-loaded squad, assuming that no players get any injuries or whatever. Portugal x Mexico will not have Porto players, 'cause they've gotta go and conquer the Cup.
Portugal doesn't need porto's players to win. They have a good team without them. As for the game, I just want to see a well played game with alot of goals. I root for both the United States and Portugal, so it doesn't matter to me who wins.
Portugal against Chile...that's the rumors this morning...Newark NJ.... Can anyone confirm when this actually would take place....they said June 7th... Anyone???
It's being said that Portugal will be playing a game in the U.S. on June 7. It was rumored that they would play against the United States on June 7, but since MLS may be playing that weekend, maybe they will play Chile.
FPF President Gilberto Madail said today that his desire would be to play in the US, though it is highly unlikely that the opponent would be the US.
According to today's Boston Globe, the US will play Portugal on June 5 in Foxboro, exactly one year after their World Cup match: http://www.globe.com/dailyglobe2/126/sports/Kick_start_for_a_continent+.shtml
Yeah, i also read it on uefa.com website. according to uefa, the game is to be play on june 5 in the new england revolution stadium (foxboro). is a shame june 5 falls on a thursday!!!!
Yeah--I am PISSED about this. What the hell is the deal with scheduling a game on a weeknight? This must be part of a series of games Portugal is going to play in the US--it would not be worth their trouble to come over just for one on Thursday night. Perhaps Chile will be on that weekend, too.
I think they figure they can get a big crowd out to see Portugal even on a weeknight. I mean, you guys know better than I do that this will be an event for the community in New England.
No doubt. What I'm pissed about is that that big crowd won't have me in it b/c of the weeknight fixture time. Ah well.
Does any one knows what time is the game? i would love to see this game but driving allway from New York to boston on a thursday night and comeback to work friday!!!a bit much, i which they would have this game on the weekend.
According to the Boston Globe, sponsorship negotiations with Sagres and GALP have stalled: http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/131/sports/Hernandez_kicking_in+.shtml
From what I have read it was mostly to do with TV rights. The federation wanted the rights to air it in Africa or something like that and the US and Portugal could not agree.
I think that Disney (ABC, ESPN, etc.) owns the rights to all US home matches, and they didn't want to let someone else (RTPi I guess) air it in certain parts of the world, even though they weren't planning on airing it themselves.
