I have a feeling Portugal will steam roll past most teams here bar argentina, italy etc.

at the u -21 euro cup we enterred without

    No:

    Cristiano ronaldo(man u)
    ricardo quaresma(barcalona)
    makulula( svilla/athletico madrid)
    tiago(benfica)
    postiga(tottenham)

then we were without our next 5 best players:

    Carlos martins(sporting)
    lourenco(sporting)
    raul meireles(porto)
    almeida(Benfica)
    bruno alves(porto)
when we played germany..but we still beat them..

but its amazing how deep we are...what a brihgt future we still have..these players were the ones againt the italian team we played in the semis..we didnt have those top 5 players in the tourny.. plus carlos martins, almeida, and bruno alves were injured before the italy game.. but we still only lost 3-1 with:

    hugo viana(newcastle)
    carlitos(benfica)
    danny(martimo)
    joao paulo(porto)
    jorge riberio(porto)
    moriera(benfica)
    bonswinga(porto)

we are very deep and this is a very good sign for the future..

i wonder what 3 older players romao and scholari are going to take???

Italy will be tough to beat, they have a great under-21 program and have won 5 out of the past 7 Under-21 championships.

They have a deep squad at the moment with alot of up and coming stars, should be the favourites to take the Olympics as well.

Portugal will definitely be there also, but I am picking Italy to win Olympic Gold in Athens.

You gotta be smoking some good stuff. The only two teams on this list that have a chance to beat Portugal are Italy and Argentina. Don't forget this is under 23 my friend. Greece? It's not the Euro.

The Olympics are an absolute effin' joke in the soccer world. Why Portugal would take Ronaldo away from his club after he gave everything he had for his country in the Euros. I can understand if Ronaldo had not played in any international tournament this summer, but this is cutting into the start of the club season. This is just ridiculous. I feel bad for Fulham too as Boa Morte is in the squad. I hope the both of them no show and return to their clubs.

omg...stop ur whining manchester united!! no one "took" ronaldo, and the olympics are only a joke b/c england doesnt have any u21 talent. ur so called "best" players are getting old or from foreign countries. also, ronaldo wants to play at the games. he is a big boy, let him make his own decisions.

now, since i dont want to bring this argument to anymore threads... back to portugal's toughest threats...

argentina, mexico, italy, and paraguay. those 4 are the only decent teams playing. portugal will definately be the best team in their group. i think that it will be easy for them to get to the quarter finals. after that its anyone's game.the other teams: costa rica, iraq, n. korea...all of those are really bad, having seen them play its almost laughable. costa rica was os weak in copa america. i think portugal will do pretty well in Athens.

i'm doing everythign possible to get good luck and points with the Lord Jesus. i've gotten all my good luck charms and started praying a novena to saint sebastian, the patron of atheletes. i hope it helps with portugal...lol.

The Holy Spirit will grant it's aid to all whos eek it, and since Portugal is Catholic... :D :p

  17. Argentina will be hot favourites...the just ended Copa America tourney should serve as a pointer..they will be ruthless i tell you!!!to make up for the disappointment of the CA....THEY WILL BE FIRED UP!

Whether it's an important tournament or not as nothing to do with it. It's an official FIFA tournament, thus if the player is called up (and obviously wants to go) then there's nothing ManU or Fulham can do about it. End of story.
