Portugal has cancelled its friendly game with the US on June 8th.

My guess is that they're afraid they can't win. ;)

Not surprised, they had evertthing to lose and nothing to gain in this game.

A second loss to the US would have been too much and they would have lost all credibility.

Says the US still hopes to play that date. I vote for trying for England or Italy! I would pay to see either of those games.

Maybe they don't agree with the war, or have security concerns.

Portugal just beat Brazil 2 x 1 last weekend (Brazil A team)

Portugal is diferent team with Felipao as it head coach, they will become very competitive, watch them make a great run at Euro 04 and WC 06

They just beat Brazil and are riding high. Why would they want to play us and be brought back to reality again?

Portugal is too scared to face the new world order.
We are the NWO of international Football.

They didn't want to face another whippin so they decided not honor the agreement.

Another Coward falls infront of the USA feet.

they definitely didn't cancel over their feelings about the war b/c they are one of our staunchest allies in the war effort. Maybe security concerns, but it probably has to do with getting more money somewhere else or getting a "better" team to play against

In a related topic, I wonder how NFL Europe is going to do this year with all the anti-US sentiment in parts of Europe. Sure bet that Garber won't miss his old job this year.

You know, I have to say that this is probably the last thing that would cross my mind. I am in awe at the depth of your sports passion. (seriously) I thought BigSoccer was just for soccer geeks and freaks.

Am I the only one who is at least slightly relieved that won't have to face Portugal with Rui Costa, Figo, Pauleta, etc. with a real coach? For once, I think it would be the Euro club rather than our Nats who has more to prove and would be more motivated. The chances of a 5 - 0 whooping, imho, were kind of high.

i just read in the uefa website that Portugal cancelled their asian tour and they are trying to schedule a game with the US. I guess Portugal is not scared at all to play the US. why should they? i personally think that they would win. You guys really think the US team is stronger than the Portuguese team just because we beat them in the world cup? Remember also we lost badly to Poland and Portugal destroy them 4-0.
You guys are way over confident!!!!!

Well then, using that theory, Albania is the best team in the world right now, even better than Brzail...Why? Well, Albania just beat Russia 3-1 in the 2004 Euro Championship Qualifiers, before that Russia beat Ireland 4-2, before that Ireland beat USA 2-1, plus USA beat Portugal....3-2 I think it was, then Portugal beat Brazil who just won the World Cup last year. Soooo....
