I think this is the time where we start screaming about DART rail and Mark Cuban or Jerry Jones involvement and restructuring Metroplex growth around Frisco and make it more family friendly and make it more SG friendly...

Congrats to Portland, especially to the reserve team. We will be there soon! Once we get a DART station... :) (JK, kind of...)

Disagree. At work, at GYM, at whatever, I keep bumping into people who don't know that we have a professional top tier football club right here in Dallas :-( .

If some 3rd class bankruptcy attorney/LASIK doctor/Dentist can fill our local air waves with commercials, why can't a "Major League" club air few more commercials on local TV during non Soccer show?

Maybe their reserve team is simply better than the first team?

Ok, ten years ago I would have understood this, but today that makes no sense to me at all. These people must just not pay attention to sports in general, not have cable, not have Internets in their homes, not watch any local news or ever read the DMN Sports section, not have kids who play soccer, never drive up and down the Tollway, etc. I can understand if they don't like soccer, have no interest in going to a game, whatever, but to not even be aware that the team exists?

I meet people all the time who have no idea we have a team. They'll usually remember the Burn. Often, when I do mention FCD and they've heard the name they'll ask "is that soccer?"

I think it's safe to say that most people in the metroplex know who FCD is and what MLS is. They also are aware that MLS is the only professional league in America that is 2nd tier to others in the world. So combine that with those that don't want to trek out to Frisco in 100 degrees and you have lots who say "oh yeah, FC Dallas, isn't that soccer?"

I actually don't think that's likely at all. It would be nice to be able to test it somehow.

I am not a techie/nerd why should I care about smart phone/iPhone. Oh wait, I guess apple probably wasted all their money with advertisement, since they probably would have gotten the same result if only stick with "Popular Mechanics" crowd.

If FC Dallas doesn't broaden their appeal, then they need to find supporters in Mars. Half the things we buy are things we don't really need. That is the correct way to milk money. This is marketing 101 and been pretty successful for last 500 years.

Not sure that's a very good example for your argument, but it's not bad for mine. Don't you think most of the people who buy iPhones already have other kinds of mobile phones? Are all of those people members of the "Popular Mechanics crowd"? Speaking from my own personal situation, I don't know a 4G from an LTE from a Warren G, but I still dumped my shitbag Blackberry for an iPhone. It's really about getting a market that already exists to switch brands/products within that market.

I'd say they don't need to broaden their appeal that much at all. In fact, I think they are doing the right thing by focusing that appeal on (once again) an existing market of young (think 18-35, not bounce house) soccer and sports fans. There will always be those people who come and go based on opposing team's superstars and winning streaks/playoffs, but you can't build a solid base of recurring revenue by spending your marketing dollars to attract them.
