It will be to either Olympiakos or Fiorentina. http://www.elmundo.es/elmundodeporte/2004/07/24/liga/1090702207.html
an interesting choice for Portillo... Olympiakos is in the group stage of the Champion's League, which is probably appealing to him, but will he really want to play in Greece? Fiorentina I don't know much about - aren't they a newly promoted side?
I feel Portillo should have played a lot more last year. Ronaldo scored plenty of goals but he NEEDED a strike partner who could do the same. Raul scored many goals during the beginning of the season but the rest of the season he was mediocre or average.
http://www.as.com/articulo.html?xref=20040726dasdaiftb_12&anchor=daspor&type=Tes&d_date=20040726 According to As, Portillo has decided to accept a one year loan to Lazio. They're going to participate in the UEFA Cup, so this seems like a compromise between the choices of Olympiakos and Fiorentina. Good luck, Javi.
seems like an ok deal. i know in another thraed i said we should hang on to him, but i suppose he was never going to want to do that himself. i meantioned how we need 3 quality strikers and a younger backup one, i suppose saldado (spelling?) can backup the strikers if needs be. in marca today it says Portillo has not travelled to Asia. but i suppose that is pretty obvious! lets hope next seson he come back a much greater player. then we'll really have a dilema. ronaldo morientes raul portillo eto'o and then with saldado coming through the ranks too!
There have also been rumors he might go to Lazio. That'd make me happy, since we're trying to offload our overpaid strikers at the moment. He'd get plenty of playing time.
I wouldn't mind seeing him at Lazio. I am positive that it's much too early to give up on him; he has showed a lot of promise in the youth ranks and hasn't really been given much with the first team. Serie A will definitley harden him up, and nothing beats playing every week in a top-flite league to bring a young player along. Of all the rumored destanations, Lazio would be my choice (assuming he'd get a good amount of playing time).
Believe me, at the rate Lazio's squad is getting poached, I would have a chance of playing. At the moment, Portillo would likely be first choice alongside with Muzzi (ugh) since Piojo and Inzaghi make more than their performances merit, and are likely to leave. Well, Simeone does always have the option of trying out for the Italian diving team, but I don't think they pay quite as much.
i heard that he is going to fly out to rome to meet with lazio officals tomorrow, this is the reason he didn't fly with the club to japan... so its seems its a done deal.
This is a great deal for Portillo....he will likely be in the initial 11. I would also send them Juanfran also if they can. Hell, lets just turn Lazio into our farm club...send them Etoo too.
Sadly, at this point, that'd make me happy, since we need players badly after our disastrous financial situation was finally straightened out.
It would be better if Real loaned out all their players to the same team instead of all over the place. It would benefit both sides since Lazio plays in Serie A and is a top-tiered Italian club so it would give Real players a good opportunity while at the same time it would allow Lazio to field a semi-decent team without having to shell out the money. I would like Juanfran to go to Lazio on loan too.
This would be a wonderful learning experience for Javier Portillo. He is now also behind Fernando Morientes in the Real Madrid starting lineup.
are you turning in2 a madrista sokkerluver? no harm in that, all lovers of the game should admire la real!
Portillo being loaned to Lazio might make sense, but how sure is everyone that Morientes will stay at Madrid? With this Viera deal suddenly seeming half likely to happen, couldnt Nando be heading to London as an exchange? Does anyone know if this has been ruled out for sure??
It was be frustrating to be in his position, behind 3 international strikers:Ronaldo,Raul(club captain),and Fernando Morientes.
Plus Guti can move upfront if needed, he has shown in the past that he can play the striker position. So it isn't necessary to keep Portillo. He will likely start at Lazio. An entire year on a Serie A club which is also in the UEFA Cup will do wonders for his development.
It's official... Portillo to Fiorentina. http://www.realmadrid.com/web_realmadrid/templates/noticias/detallenoticia.jsp?idnoticia=4
Fiorentina, thats a surprise and a strange one. i know he'd been linked with them but i thought lazio would be the most sensible move!
I'd rather it have been Lazio but I suppose Fiorentina's not bad. It actually might be better, because he will be facing the same competition in Serie A as he would have with Lazio but with a weaker team, so there might be less pressure on him. Hopefully he'll score a lot of goals and impress a lot of people, so we can either bring him back next year as a fourth or even third striker or sell him off at a good price.
