Short answer is, four of their five players making over $1M didn't live up to their paycheck.

Gil certainly did, but Campana, Ganago, Chancalay and Yueill did not.

If they were 100% healthy, maybe things would have been different (Ganago and Chancalay coming back from major surgery, Campana's been in and out with injuries all season).

Langoni has been a bust too, but I blame that on the system (he's too short to latch onto any of the thousand crosses the wingbacks pump in).

Part of it is that the players didnt perform in their limited opportunities.

But I think a bigger part is that the Revs offensive identity after 2 years under Porter was "Get Gil the ball and let him make something happen".

Effective attacking strategies can't simply be let your best players be super stars unless you have a massive talent advantage. Porter not instilling a cohesive plan is I feel at least % of this team's problem

I listened to FDA on the revs recap podcast which was recorded before the Porter firing was announced.

His whole perspective felt like the guy at the end of the big short, arguing that banks can't fail and we should just stay the course. It feels like he trusts the org to make good decisions, and I just dont see the data to support that point of view

Hmmmm.... Historically, Porter has won MLS Cups, and a couple of years later, alienated everyone enough that they let him go. Unfortunately, he skipped the first part with us.

BTW, I don't think getting into an argument with another coach is a really huge deal. Especially when things aren't going well, it's bound to happen.

So it sounds like a bad work environment was created by Caleb. Let's see how they react

Sorry but I can’t resist a few sarcastic comments:

    • So, they created a BETTER work environment than under Arena? It was all worth it?
    • Bruce - I thought you were a better coach but now I see that Porter created a bad work environment WITHOUT getting suspended or ultimately resigning. No, he got fired and will continue to collect paychecks. Plus, he isn’t beholden to the MLS commissioner either. Clearly Porter knows “how to get it done.”
    • Maybe the problem identified under Arena goes deeper than one man?
Consider the source, lots of people love to hate him, but Alexi was clear on his podcast that the NE Revolution need to do a lot more than change coaches. On that matter, I agree with him.

Moving on. Curtain is interesting to me but I thought he was trying to be available to take over the USMNT after Pochettino?

Being the masochist that I am, I listened to the whole thing. A couple of takeaways:
    • He said they would spend an "enormous amount of time" evaluating and making sure they get the "right person" to coach the team.
That better not be like when they hired Porter, waiting until after the roster decisions had to be made. The new coach needs to decide who from the existing squad to keep or not.
    • He said the new coach has to be OK for the most part, with the existing roster
That means we shouldn't expect any new "big" signings. Sounds like he's already blown his allowance. Also, assuming Turner has a good World Cup, he's not going to finish the '26 season. They need to figure out ahead of time who their keeper will be for the stretch run and playoffs o_O
    • I don't know how many times he mentioned they need to win their home games.
True, but reading between the lines, he's probably heard it from lots of fans that they aren't happy. Someone pointed out that season ticket renewal time is here, and they have to make it look like they are doing something, whether they are or not.

And who knew Curt could speak Spanish?

Yes, going back at least to the start of the '24 season - while they felt comfortable trading away the Revs II star forward for a bag of peanuts.

Well, he's certainly in a position to have numerous, serious demands (as Arena did when he was hired) and IMO, as a fan, I think that's a very good thing, since I have no confidence in anyone else in that building.
They've assembled so pretty good attacking talent, but Ganago, Chancalay, Camana and Langoni aren't playing up to their salaries/cost - so that's a lot of not maximizing resources.

They have a sub-par dmid and that impacts both offense and defense. I like Yussuf, but he doesn't have big enough impact, not being a physical player.

The other thing is that Gil is their only impact field player. Good teams have several.

To be fair, these guys haven't exactly lit it up at other MLS clubs this year:
Olger Escobar, MON - 272 min, 1 G (against us)
    Noel Buck, SJE - 90 min, 0 G
Jordan Adebayo-Smith, MIN - 0 min -> loaned to Detroit City FC

I totally agree that DM is a weakness for us. Polster is the only serviceable one but he's prone to too many yellows and injuries.

When asked why he deserves to keep his job he mentioned they got Matt Turner for nothing. I kind of chuckled at that. Might be nothing now but they are going to pay if they buy him from OL

And they're paying him one of the highest GK salaries in the league.

    Again not nothing.

How odd is the truly stark contrast between:

Bob and Jon's euphoric ecstasy hyperarousal for Super Bowl victories; they absolutely BASK in the reflected glory....

.....but don't really have ANY material interest in on-field results for Revs.

(almost to the point of seemingly not even trying to put in place/hire effective competitive-results-oriented management. Krafts appear to expend minimal low-baseline effort towards actually "going for" on-field wins. They seem oddly-too-comfortable wallowing in on-field mediocrity and ineptitude for inexplicably long periods of time...)

Again, to me at least, this is so so odd.

Porter cannot be trusted with this team.

Onalfo cannot be trusted to competently replace Porter

Bilello cannot be trusted to replace Onalfo nor Porter

Jon Kraft nor Bob Kraft cannot be trusted to replace Bilello, nor Onalfo, nor Porter

    >> It has to start at the top

I think the attendance figures last year were helped by the Messi game being a weekend so more of the four packs were sold, than this year when it was a Wednesday night game.

As per the Blazing Musket, Curtin is backing out of the Revs job search due to family reasons. Tom Bogert noted that he's probably not taking a job in 2026 at all, unless there are special circumstances..

Try to name a competent coach/manager in his right mind that would entertain taking on the Rev under this management setup, and this current ownership! Go ahead. I'll wait!
