I think CFG would rather see the stadium packed to the rafters every other weekend with tickets at a premium. They sold 22,000 season tickets for this season. The attendance against RSL was announced as 22,736 but I doubt there were more than 16,000 in the the stadium. I posted a picture of Meadow Lane, home of Notts County, which has looked like this for the last 20 years.
All due respect to Notts county but NYC has a bit more people then Nottingham and to restrict yourself to 22K is foolish when you'll have dates that guarantee more fans then that (NYC derby) and you can start scheduling matches in the summer for Int. club friendlies plus host an array of International games plus probably a few WCQ as well. Also it would strike me more expensive to expand a 22k seater then just build a 30K or more stadium to begin with. You've said it yourself the club has almost 22k in season tickets you at least want a few thousand non STH seats for walk ups and groups.
Not to mention the interest a new stadium would generate, that would get a few more thousand into games just on its own.
So NYC isn't bigger than jesus or anything but they're doing alright for themselves I think. Attendance shrank a few thousand as the new car smell faded but their core fanbase is solid and a little bigger than their neighbors across the Hudson (who are doing just fine despite the newer competition thank you.) I'm not sure that NYC has really registered much on the global radar or of it ever had a chance to do so because of the league it's in. They represent the center of the universe New York, sure, but its still an MLS club and that comes with its own inherent level of disrespect. But yeah, not bad overall.
Yeah. They are. As usual, amirite? I just thought I'd actually give an answer to the original thread topic.
I just quickly scanned the previous 10 pages and looks as if some of the zestier comments made by fake Cosmos fans may have been deleted. Hey but who cares? Having their farce of a team crash and burn couldn't have happened to a better group of delusional dim wits. I also noticed some guys were questioning what type of coverage the team would get. I just checked the archive at the New York Post and there have been 12 NYCFC articles in the paper since the new year. Now that may not sound like a lot, but considering: It's MLS soccer. It's MLS soccer in the off season. The team has to share coverage with 11 other professional teams in the area. The Post also gives a lot of space to Golf, Tennis, College BB & FB. Now if NYCFC can only figure out a way for the Times to give MLS more coverage than they give the Slovakian 3rd division we'd be in business!
In Italy the NYCFC team is much known and not only for the Pirlo shit.... When in early 2000s I wished a TRUE NYC soccer team called NYCFC, on the forums everyone said that I was crazy, that there are the Metrostars/NJRB and then the Cosmos..........
Hi all I am a NYCFC fan in Melbourne Australia. The club that I follow is Melbourne City FC which is also part of CFG. I used to enjoy MLS prior to the club starting but didn’t have a team, NY was the obvious choice. David Villa has a guest stint with us on his way to the USA. I know a number of our fans have been to games over there and have enjoyed it and were welcomed by the local fans. I also see NYCFC shirts down here throughout the season. I should point out I don’t follow Manchester City too closely but generally know how all the CFG clubs are doing. New York is the only one I go out of my way to watch. I’m hoping one day for a CFG team in the NWSL.
Finally, on 11 December 2021, my dream has become reality. Forza NYCFC from Napoli (Italia)!!! 2021 MLS CUP CHAMPIONS!!! https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/2021-mls-cup-recap-portland-timbers-vs-new-york-city-fc
https://www.frontrowsoccer.com/2024...N7heuJWy6ImTtq3RTw_aem_lfM6bTFWtJCjn7Q2geQU2A New York City FC on Tuesday announced the addition of Marcelo Claure to the club’s ownership group with an investment equivalent of approximately 10 percent of the company’s post-investment value.
I wonder if they'll try and be the LAFC of the east coast once they move to Queens or they'll just be a CFG subsidiary.
How is it not an issue that Claure is now partial owner of two MLS franchises? Isn't that an immediate conflict of interest?
Miami? Edit: I double-checked and saw that he was bought out in 2021. Sorry, my bad. Nothing to see here...
