Explain 'among the most popular'? Are we talking about Man U, Real Madrid, Barca level? Or are we talking about PSG... teams that are known but aren't supported on a global stage? I would agree with the latter.

    The latter, of course.

Given that most people in NY don´t even support a soccer club the potential is huge.
I don´t expect existing fans of say other European clubs or fans of other teams to be eager to join up but that would mean nothing to someone that mostly watches say NFL or MLB.
Then we have the Latino population that support their own teams mostly, not sure about them but anyway..I feel that we´ll target the kids hard.
Loads of youth academy activities to prepare the groundwork for both a nice stream of talented kids as well as building a local fanbase of people that at least regard NYC as their secondary team.

Then we got the delicate question on how to profit from having at a guess the biggest non-American fanbase in MLS as by default NYC are regarded by MCFC fans as part of the family so to say..

This team won't even be the most popular team in MLS or North America...slow down.

I think that in the first year at Yankee Stadium ( 50k seats ) this team could have an average attendance by about 30k.

Hmm..You know that Yankees use the stadium 81 games a year, during the same season mostly?

Pointless to discuss what attendances we "might" get years from now..We simply got nothing to compare with at this moment.

But from one thing to another..How come people say that three teams in the NY area is not possible, not even in the future?
If (big if) there´s support for three teams why not have three teams?
Or rather..what is the big difference between 2 and 3 teams in the NY area?
It´s not like MLS is limited in the number of teams they can have really, there´s a lot more flexibility there than in Europe.

Is it important to cover as much ground as possible or what?

I think its great NYCFC will grow. It will create a good rivalry in the northeast especially with the Red Bulls.

Unless the Cosmos make it to MLS eventually to create the rivalry we already see on this forum :D

I doubt Cosmos will make it to MLS anytime soon. NYCFC pretty much snuffed that potential out for the time being.

Why really? If there´s fans enough in NY I would expect them to become a part of MLS eventually, where else could they go?

Not saying they will not be in the MLS. I'm just speculating in the current time being they wont be jumping on MLS . Its still good, not many 2nd tier teams get a heavy sponsor. Especially for a team that is yet to start a season.

In particular a sponsor owned by the father of Sheikh Mansours wife, a sponsor that will in due time be owned by Sheikh Mansours best friend..The plot thickens

Separated from the first one though.. She got a palace of her own while Mansour and Manal live together.
The fist marriage was arranged by his mother I might add, a formidable old woman who have a way of getting things done her way..very much her way
