Sucks for him. He was playing really well.

Unfortunately, he does seem to be a bit injury-prone.

I guess this gives Corey Gibbs his big chance with the USMNT.

That's bad news for the Metro's and maybe worse news for the U.S. in the Confed. Cup.

It's not that long...he will be back for the playoff stretch. Could be worse...could be season ending.

sucks,,this season he's thee best centeral defender in all of mls, from a metro perspective he would have been gone that whole time anyway.

we cant replace him but i feel bradely can get some quality time from regen, arena and forchetti

My only worries about the Petke trade was Moreno's chronic injuries and low output las year and Pope's tendancy to be injured. At least Richie Williams is healthy and thriving with Bradley and hopefully Pope is back for playoffs.

Hope Pope does not turn into Antonio McDyess with the knee cap.

He probably won't turn into anything like McDyess with the kneecap, but Metro fans should get used to the nagging plague of Eddie Pope injuries. It's almost as if they're the pay-back for his talent.

The injury really is too bad for the Metros because he was playing really, really well.

Taking nothing away from Howard, Pope has been the MVP to this point. His presence made the rest of defense play with more confidence knowing he had their backs. I hope he's a quick healer.

    You still have Richi Williams!!!!

Actually its too bad about Pope. He is a classy player and adds a lot to MLS and the Nats.

That's the gamble Bradley took when he dealt for Pope and Moreno and it's part of the reason DCU let them go.

There's no guarantee either one of them will be healthy for the playoffs either.

Sometimes your gambles work out and sometimes they don't. The law of averages will catch up to you over time if you play long enough unless you're extremely lucky.

I hope Bradley has a plan! I feel like our championship season is slipping away. First Timmy now Pope! I hope Mathis stays put!

Although everyone is saying Timmy is gone (and it does look like it), he isn't gone yet. Maybe he is gone later than sooner. Hopefully 6-8 weeks from now.

Ah yes, being a Metro fan.

No 5 game winning streak goes unpunished.

I'm worried that it might be more than 6 weeks, a fractured patella is pretty serious. With surgery these days, even tendon problems can be overcome quickly, but a cracked kneecap isn't something that you can quickly and easily fix.

Pope was the MVP, or at least co-mvp with Howard. Not until he is back and playing well will we sleep easily. The dropoff between Howard and Cannon/Walker is something I think metro can overcome. The dropoff between Pope and Kenny Arena is not something we can overcome. None of us have seen Forchetti yet, and we can't call him much of anything until he gets game time. Steve Jolley is now again our best defender, and as we say against Cunninham on Saturday that isn't a good thing.

On the bright side, he would have been gone for much of that time anyway for the Confederations Cup and the Gold Cup. Most teams goes through periods like this during a season when 1 or more of their top players are unavailable for a while. This will tell what this team is really made of and who will step up to become a team leader in our 3 best players' absence.

This is like being a NJ Nets fan. Just when it seems that things are going to turnaround, all hell breaks loose. Early 80's Nets are a contender but Michael Ray Richardson goes back to using drugs. Early 90's Nets are a contender again, but Petrovic is killed in a car accident.

    This year with the Metros?

    1) Mathis has hernia operation.
    2) Moreno goes down after only 2 games. No idea when he'll be back.
    3) Tim Howard on his way (maybe) to Man U.
    4) Pope goes down for 8 weeks, maybe more since it's a serious injury.

What's next? Paul Grafer slips in his bathtub and breaks his leg? Steve Jolley gets SARS? Bob Bradley resigns and takes over as coach of the US Women's National Team?

You get the feeling that some things just aren't meant to be.

As far as I can tell his debut with the Metro will be his professional debut.

You worry to much. I am sure he has got it covered. When Howard goes we will have a competant keeper to take his place. Plus there are a lot of decent center backs around if we can not cover this hole.

We still have a lot of good players on this team and the coach is good.

I know her was on the roster before, was he ever taken off?

If so the good news he is back on.
