I can understand him talking up the fans. That kind of butt kissing will help. But the whole thing about Arse being bigger than Real? They're scrapin' money together to try to build a new stadium and for the most part making shrewd buys on the transfer market. They're not dirt poor but they don't seem to have the kind of cash to toss around that Real does.

We don't have their kind of money. But he's not just some deer-in-the-headlights youngster who decided to pop off one day.
While Arsenal aren't a bigger club than Real (Manchester United is the only club bigger than Real Madrid), I would say they have a better team now.
*larf*, this is what i love about you guys. You have a better marketing machine than Real. Apart from that you're not in the same league in any tangible measure. You may be the more viable club in terms of making a return on an investment but thats it. You're nowhere as successful as them (domestically or in europe), they are consistently bigger spenders than you in the transfer market, they have a better team & (FACT) they along with Barcelona have the most number of supporters club in the world. With respect to Reyes' comments he was clearly wrong & was swept up in the emotion saying Arsenal are a bigger team than Real but i definately believe we are better than them.
I still don't know what defines a club as being "big". Success? Popularity? Transfer spending? Stadium capacity? Household names on the pitch?
In terms of worldwide popularity and recognition, Manchester United is the biggest club in the world. This has been stated many, many times. We're also the richest, when it comes to generated income. I'd say both those factors are enough for us to be the biggest club in the world. We're not the most successful, nor are we the best (at the minute), but we are the biggest in terms of recognition. Everyone worldwide has heard of Manchester United, regardless of whether or not they follow football. This is not the case with Real Madrid. At risk of offending my American companions, I will say that the average American sports fan who -doesn't- follow soccer, will have only heard of one club - Manchester United.
I really couldn't careless what the average joe who has no knowledge of football thinks, as far as i'm concerned Man U are not a bigger or better club than Real Madrid in anything remotely tangible or important. End of. I'm sure more people are aware of David Beckham than Nelson Mandella, it doesn't stop those people from being morons.
