Well, now that the Iraqi conflict (aka Gulf War II) has seemingly come to an end, the other political cartoon thread dedicated to political cartoons satirizing the war will sink into BS obscurity. However, the cartoonists with political minds are still out there doing some good work.

Welcome to the Political and Current Event cartoon thread.

am I the only person really impressed by his work? He came virtually out of nowhere, created some funny characters to spoof/document suburban (black?) life, and has lampooned both government and popular culture with pretty good wit. His personal beliefs may be a bit much, but he's a damn good cartoonist.

No. I really like him too.

I will take this opportunity to complain about 'Mallard Fillmore' by Bruce Tinsley. The dozen or so strips per year he does that aren't over-the-top political aren't bad, but 12/365 is a lousy batting average. In contrast to 'Boondocks' or even 'Doonsbury', Tinsley doesn't seem to be feel the need for real characters or plots, and I can't recall him ever poking fun at someone he agreed with. In short, it ain't funny unless you have the same opinions he does.

A close liberal equivalent is Ted Rall , but he's not screaming at me from the comics page everyday.

They are not even close. Ted Rall is wild, insightful and occasionally funny. Bruce Tinsley is banal, shallow and never entertaining.

I love his stuff. Even since the Boondocks hit the Chicago Tribune I rarely miss a strip. I don't always agree with what he is saying, but he does it so well that it almost always gets a chuckle out of me.

I don't know that that is a good example of his cartoons but that one is not funny at all.

As a Trekker, I found the Romulan and "Enjoy your 3d hell" extremely funny.

    I liked this one:

Look! Bushdad and Bushra. You see, it's a play on words. How clever. And by clever i mean shallow.

No, I didn't express myself particularly well. I was thinking about how I don't think I would find Rall funny if I didn't agree with him, and how he probably doesn't care about the bruised sensibilities of those he attacks. I know there are conservatives who think Tinsley is funny (yeah, they probably think Rush is hilarious too).
