... that's pretty much what Arshavin occasionally did. I guess my comment was more on the vein of should we regularly expect sloppy touches and loss of possession mixed in with brilliance? Or was this just a game where he was off and kept working at it until he got it working?
He didn't do well at Bayern, but a certain Mr. Dennis did poorly at Internazionale, but we all know the rest is history. And of course, Mr. Thierry didn't light up Juve, that's history too lol... As if in life people cannot redeem themselves lol..
Never liked him back in his days in Munich. He almost got roasted in Koln's last match but I'm indifferent on him. If he does well, then he does well. If he doesn't then he doesn't.
Poldi is a great defender The ultimate drone. I presume the whole point of getting him is to shore up the left side with someone who will track back endlessly.
I remember jitty describing him as a left side drone....this is true but when we attack he becomes deadly, imagine kuyt as a good finisher with speed.
That's why I don't agree with those who want him in the middle up front. He gets back on defence constantly.
Has he ever been a captain anywhere? I catch glimpses of him acting that way at times. I knew very, very little about him before he came (other than watching him a few times in the German squad) but so far I'm liking what we get. I know where people are coming from when they say they'd like to seem him in the middle. He's got that killer striker instinct. BUT he can also clearly play wide creatively, which I'm not sure Giroud can do as well. So, maybe we're going to be using them in this config for awhile?
I think that the Podolski-Gibbs partnership has been fantastic so far. Compared to the right side where we've yet to hit on a partner for Jenkinson - I haven't been blown away by either Oxlade-Chamberlain or Walcott...
Walcott - 4 goals 1 assist in all competitions used mainly as a sub... i hardly recognize this clinical forward. Theo has missed some chances to set others up, but the guy creates so many more chances that they rack up.
My honest view of Polds is that he scores goals, but sometimes is anonymous from games. Up until his goal against Olympiakos, he didn't do much. Yet he blitzed the Scousers and Soton. Other than that, he's a worthy addition. Hopefully Giroud can now be as effective as Polds and Santi.
No doubt, he's been great as a sub... I was definitely wrong about his finishing. Doesn't look like he's happy with the workload on the wing, though.
I think it's because our wide right player usually plays like a winger and stays on the touchline. the gibbs/podolski partnership works because poldi drifts inside leaving room for gibbs. i think ramsey could work well with jenks when he plays wide right, as he drifts in a lot. but ramsey never seems to look for the overlap. he tries to play more through balls to the forwards, which is his more natural game.
Poldi is also record holder in Germany in the 'goal of the month' contest. Here is the compilation (including Overath haha): goal 7 is a real stunner
