I'm having Deja Vu 2012 - after years of underperforming, the Bears fire a GM who had shown a consistent inability to replace aging talent. new GM fires a coach whose basic tactics had been left in the dust by more sophisticated NFL teams. new GM dawdles along, interviewing seemingly everyone on a immense candidate list, before passing on the consensus favorite in favor of a relative unknown who'd been out of the league for almost a decade. I'm not expecting better results this time around.
So NYCFC signed Patrick Vieira. I'm not sure he would have been at the top of my list for Chicago, but it's an interesting hire that conveys ambition.
Does he have any coaching experience at this point? I mean, Vieira was one of my favorite players back in the day, but I'm wary of hiring a guy with limited coaching experience (correct me if I'm wrong here) and even less MLS experience.
Today he said he wants to be back. During the play in game he was quoted as believing this was the last chance for this group to challenge for MLS Cup. I suppose he's up for the rebuild if they want him in Seattle.
Ok…I am trying to resign myself to the expectation that Ramos will probably be the new guy. So I am digging for reasons that this will be ok somehow to soften the blow when it comes. Sure probably not the most exciting hire but let's just assume that being the U-20 Natty coach he has his pulse on upcoming prospects available and can find all those low cost/high performing guys the last several regimes cannot find that nearly every other team seems to locate and sign for $50,000 contracts and hopefully he can (if hired) be the guy to develop the young guys in a way the last several regimes did not. Fingers crossed? I also think back and the first thing that pops into my mind when I think of Ramos is not only his goals as a player but you can't help but bring the whole skull fracture thing up in case anyone forgot that little gem of a moment on the Fourth of July.
We are Fire fans discussing coaches we'd like to see. And the team is owned by Andrew Hauptman. There is no reality to what we're doing here in the present circumstances.
