We have way more quality than Italy but we are playing like those Dutch teams that failed to qualify for major tournaments in the past decade when they should have qualified.

We literally are the Dutch right now. Those good Dutch teams that failed to qualify failed because of their coach, we are going through the same thing.

Santos should have been gone after 2018. Much less 2020.

We would of squeaked by with an ugly 1-0 win in that scenario

We're the dutch squad of 2002 who failed to qualify for the World Cup behind Portugal and Ireland.

Looking back, with Ireland being an insanely solid team at the time, that was a extremely difficult group.

Portugal's motto as the new Dutch: "When you're tired of beating them, then just become them..."

I heard Oilers jerseys are selling out in Ontario. It looks like they have abandoned the Leafs for the Oilers.

    I'm proud of y'all.

No it’s the fact that Basketball and Soccer are more popular with the changing demographics of a city. I’ve lived here my whole life and see it. Hockey is dead and is the domain of the older generations or upper classes who can afford to put their children through a very expensive sport (ice time, equipment etc. ) the only sport more expensive to play is probably motorsports lol. Basketball and soccer are much more relatable to the masses.

Agree 100%. It's funny that our best result was without CR7.

Portugal I say will still qualify for Qatar because it's Ronaldo and this could possibly be his last World Cup. So for that alone Ronaldo will probably be even more motivated to qualify.

We can win if we are in good form and our main individuals perform. It won’t be because of Santos. Guy has no game plan whatsoever. He has overstayed his welcome. He was given a lifetime pass for winning euros and nations league .

There are plenty of better Portuguese managers out there. Fernando Santos is from the older generation who don’t have the same quality of the new generation of

Ruben Amorim, Jorge Jesus, Sergio Conceicao , Leonardo Jardim, Andre Villas Boas , Jose Mourinho .

Many of them are tied up with clubs at the moment and as a Sporting fan I’d rather keep hold of Amorim for now.

I have read that Conceicao and Jesus’ contracts are up this summer, if Portugal fails to qualify I would like to see one of them take charge. Conceicao was a player for Portugal in the 90s/2000s and i think would be a good fit. Many top NT coaches were top players for their country such as Roberto Mancini and Luis Enrique and Sergio fits that mould. He seems to be a good motivator and good tactician. Jorge Jesus is older and would certainly
Set the team up to play attractive football.

Sergio Conceicao or Leonardo Jardim would be perfect

Sergio Conceicao renewed his contract for three more years back in June. He is staying with Porto until June 2024.

Managers like Conceicao and Amorim have club aspirations. There is too much potential for them at the club level and they are not even close to being done there yet. The next national team manager will probably be someone like a Jorge Jesus. Someone who has done their fair share at club level management and wants to move on to the National Team.

Based on his current coaching abilities. He is still the special one…but the meaning of special has slightly changed

Jose Mourinho as Portugal manager he definitely would make them not just better but he would have them playing more attractive football

Have you seen a Mourinho team lately?

    Vitor Pereira
    Leonardo Jardim
    Luis Castro

    My shortlist.

I had a dream last night that we lost the Playoff Final 1-0 or something along those lines because Santos went extra conservative, parked the bus and fielded a lineup with 2 goalkeepers lmao

I think Portugal will beat Turkey and Portugal in the Final will be at home playing against Turkey. Big pressure game at home in front of a packed house. Pressure will be on. Ronaldo in pressure type situations he rises to the occasion.
