In a way, we have the most to prove against Chivas USA. It would be tough to play us five matches over the year and win/draw all five. If we do play the Goats, I'd think we'll be ready.
Another scenario: HOU-LA - LA wins CHI-CHV - CHI wins SEA-FCD - SEA wins LA-SJ - SJ wins CHV-HOU - HOU wins That would give us a table like this: 47 - SEA 47 - LA 47 - HOU 45 - CHV Seattle would win the three-team head-to-head tiebreaker. Or: HOU-LA - tie CHI-CHV - CHI wins SEA-FCD - SEA wins LA-SJ - tie CHV-HOU - tie That would give us a table like this: 47 - SEA 46 - LA 46 - HOU 46 - CHV Chivas USA would come out last in the three-way head-to-head tiebreaker. Or: HOU-LA - HOU wins CHI-CHV - CHI wins SEA-FCD - SEA wins LA-SJ - SJ wins CHV-HOU - HOU wins That would give us a table like this: 50 - HOU 47 - SEA 45 - CHV 44 - LA
CHV has a bunch of games in a short time span coming down the stretch. I know how we looked when we hit the compressed part of the schedule. You have to wonder how fresh they will be for the playoffs after playing a 3 games the week before.
We want these results and the Chivas' advantage would be neutralized: Chivas loss to Chicago Chivas draw with Houston LA loss to SJ and of course, us beating Dallas. Then that would be Seattle 47 Chivas 46 Houston 46 LA 45
Wow what an exciting game in Houston! Beckham got no love for all US players (nor should he have). Ended 0-0 so good for us I assume.
I would have preferred a Houston win, myself. That probably would have given us the best chance to finish second in the division, now we're pretty much hoping for Houston to tie or lose against Chivas and LA to tie or lose against San Jose. Houston's loss to Chivas is much more likely than a LA tie or loss against San Jose.
You can still get your second-place finish if Chivas USA beats Houston and LA fails to beat San Jose.
Yeah that's what I thought the scenario became thanks for clearing it up. I wonder how much of an advantage of #1 vs #2 seed is both in terms of getting another potential home game and in terms of winning the MLS cup. Thanks bright too for that possibility.
Not really. San Jose has been in many of their games lately. They got robbed in 1 or their 2 ties with Colorado but both results helped Seattle. They beat DC, tied Chivas last night and tied Toronto a week ago. LA isn't a "for sure" victor next week. San Jose gets up for their matches against the Fallacy.
Please note that I was making a comparison between the Houston-Chivas game and the LA-San Jose game and that I was making no claim about LA winning their game for sure. If you go back and actually read what I said, you would see that I was saying that LA is more likely to win their game against San Jose than Houston is likely to win their game against Chivas.
This is MLS afterall. For whatever reason, teams are rarely consistent. Of course, there are those that say it's evidence of "parity" in the league.
Ok man...... Certainly not worth arguing over. But it won't mean a damn thing if we don't beat Dallas Saturday.
Vancouver fans can now get to the MSL Cup 2009 in Seattle.. We just bought our tickets though FanBus.ca
