I wouldn't assume that just yet. I think Bruce will take a long look at both of them this coming week in training and see who looks sharpest. If Ricketts isn't 100% recovered, then definitely Saunders, but if Ricketts plays in Houston and looks good, get ready for an interesting week leading up to the first playoff game...
Ya the only reason I assumed Saunders is because Rickets has been playing sparingly. Why wouldnt Ricketts be 100% If he can play one game why couldnt be play them all its not like he has to be game fit.
Tough call for the coaching staff, still I wish we had this problem up top. Does the consistency and chemistry built over the last 4-5 months between the back four and Saunders trump Ricketts’ ability to come up with the impossible save?
I'd take a healthy Ricketts anyday. Saunders is excellent, but the occasional bobble frazzles my nerves. Too bad Ricketts has glass bones.
Wait... so Saunders plays hockey too? Damn the kid is talented, I didn't know he could play 'goalie' too.
You're urgently needed in England, where tens of millions of people are calling elevators "lifts." Make haste, sir. Think of the poor, suffering words!
You mean the Ricketts that played more minutes in 2010 than any other MLS goalkeeper except one? The Ricketts that missed 5 regular season games in total in the 2+ seasons before he broke his arm? Or you talking about a different Ricketts?
I’ll be honest 58 minutes in to the Houston game, make-shift backbone aside, Ricketts looks very rusty.
After seeing Ricketts tonight, I'd like to have Saunders start for us during the playoffs. I know that Ricketts didn't have the best defense in front of him, but he just didn't look like the GK that dominated last season.
Agree here too. He looks like he's re-learning his positional sense. Rusty is an apt word. Saunders is the starter. This doesn't mean I think Ricketts is terrible or wish him gone. He just looks like a player that was out for months. P.S. He also looked like he knew it. Felt bad for him tonight. Rough go in back of a young team.
I'm talking about the Ricketts that plays great when he's healthy but doesn't stay healthy as long as I'd like. BTW, it's 2011. We are lucky to have a very good backup keeper and a reliable 3rd keeper that has a really cool 3-D movie coming out soon.
Ricketts is fantastic keeper but he has been out too long. Saunders is the guy in form so he is our best option by far. Always stick with your in form side.

I have to give the nod to Saunders - he stepped up to the pressure-filled plate when Ricketts went down injured, and has been in good form once he got settled and continued to get actively get minutes. He's been solid when commanding his defense and also has made some key saves for the team over the second half of the season. I wonder what would motivate Josh more, offering him free Pollo Campero or KFC for a shutout?
