I really want to go to this game. Is anybody else thinking along the same lines? La locura rojinegra.
Make sure you're showing the "Pine-Sign" with pride. You'll surely stand-out from the crowd showing that 'trophy' held high! ... roflmao!
Great job to the ten or so car trippers (couple from Houston and most from DFW) to Invesco. You may have gotten wet (no rain, just RapidMan), lost the match, but you were given some decent respect from your team coming off the field. By the way,...are you going to auction off that signed Pablo poster?
Listening to the broadcast again on tape I definitely heard "Chrissy" a few times and "Oscar Pareja" after his close shot. When you guys get back please post the road trip story!
The Invesco invasion of 2002 consisted of an airborne attack as well as ground troops. We had unexpected ground support from a contingent from Houston. Numbers were small, but all that were in attendance duly noted our presence. The Airborne contingent of the Inferno arrived at the parking lot at Invesco around 5:30. We headed over to the tailgate of the River Ratz. Nice group of guys and gals. We downed a couple of beers as we talked about Colorado natives vs. tourists, and also about their various adventures down in the Lone Star state. Once the ground contingent arrived, we went to get our tickets from will-call. That is when we ran into the two guys that had driven up from Houston. We asked them to join us in our seats, but they were reluctant to give up their spot (which turned out to be a great move later on). After spending another half hour or so, we headed into the Stadium. Invesco is a nice stadium. I think it is better than the Razor up in Foxboro for watching soccer. We all had the Red and Black gear, a couple of drums, the Texas flag, the "Titus is Done" sign, and the infamous Pablo poster. When we got to our section, I could tell right away that this was not going to work. We had the first row in front of a family section. We were there to stand, and make noise. They kept yelling at us to not play the drums and to sit down. Security finally came over, but did not do anything to address the issue. So as we scanned the stadium we saw a huge Red and Black flag along with a Texas flag and a US flag and many Burn pennants in a section that was pretty much empty. It was the guys from Houston; they had setup in the section next to the River Ratz. So we exited our assigned seats, to the applause of all the families that were sitting there. As we walked over to the section with the big flags we held up the Pablo sign nice and high for all to see. And security intercepted us once again, to let us know that we needed to lose the sign because it was obstructing people's view. Once we explained where we were headed, they let us go with a warning to not get into it with the River Ratz because a few of them were pretty drunk. We told them not to worry. They did not know that we had been drinking with them. So 15 minutes into the game, we finally had a spot. The cheering back and forth between the two groups was pretty fun. Neither side went over the edge with profanity or vulgarity. They Pablo sign was a hit except with two teenage girls that kept crying that Pablo was hot, and we were just jealous. We all were having a good old time when the Dude in the Slurpee costume showed up. The Dude shot us with two Super Soakers. He got us pretty good. A couple of the guys were really mad, but cooler heads prevailed on our end. That guy should lose his job. An incident like that could have easily turned into a rumble. Slurpee dude crossed the line. His actions justify any fan taking the beverage of their choice and dumping it on anybody that is on the field whether it be a player, a cop, a media person, or a guy in a stupid costume. Fortunately, Slurpee dude did not come around our section again for the rest of the game because something bad could have happened. As the whistle blew for the 90 minute, the players exited the tunnel, right by our section. We chanted for them as they entered the tunnel, some of them acknowledged us, others looked like they just wanted to get out of there. Pablo came over, and signed the poster with a TV camera capturing the moment. How cool was that? After the game, we hooked back up with the River Ratz in the tailgate area. They thanked us for coming all the way up from Dallas. We thanked them for their hospitality. We then followed them to the Celtic for a post game celebration. The RR's were great hosts, and we enjoyed the time we spent with them. Special thanks to Jeff and his friend whose name escapes me right now. Quick hit comments overheard during the tailgates: A couple of RR's thought that Dallas came out to play for the tie from the onset. They did not understand the strategy. I did not understand it either. The same guys also thought that Fraser used his hand on the play that resulted in the goal to get the turnover that he ran down in the corner before crossing it to Carrieri. They did not want to talk about the Valderrama Tae Kwon Do kick to Vaca's head. The impression I got from most of the RR is that they don't think that Colorado stands a chance on Wednesday. But they remain hopeful nonetheless. La locura rojinegra
Good post Chamo. I know your feeling about leaving without the desired result(although I am happy for the Rapids). Sucks really hard about the soccer moms bitching and complaining. And I thought we might have some good noise in the section. I wish they would have moved to one of those second tier seats to sit and watch everything else but the match like they typically do. You want some revenge on those soccer moms? Post it and I'll try and make it happen next time, whether this year or next! Glad you had a good trip, despite the loss.
A pleasure meeting you all as well. Mad props for making the trek. Chamo, who do you forget? Al, greenie, Mike? The Celtic rocked.
