So the teams have had TWO weeks to sell tickets this time, and all the games are on the weekend. Any thoughts/guesses/predictions? KC: 13,500 Chi: 16,100 NE: 9,500 (are they playing football at the same time on tv?) SJ: 12,200 These are just wild guesses. Maybe someone has some inside info.
I dont know that KC will be that high. They've been advertising very well, Meola has been on the local sports talk radio stations telling people to come. But its going to be 40 degrees or colder, so I'd say 10,000 would be a good turnout. Anything else is icing on the cake and any less is disappointing.
Alas, I forgot about the weather. Could be very cold in Chicago and NE as well, and I think the forecast is for rain in San Jose. *sigh* Decrease my predictions by 30% all the way around. Just another reason to have a team in San Diego!!!
MLS fans are so weird..what other sport are playoff games more poorly attended than regular season games? I can't think of any.
Any sport that relies on advance group sales as much as MLS does has trouble selling tickets to games that aren't on the schedule.
It also goes to show how MLS fans just don't care yet as much as they do for other teams. The outcome(s) just don't matter as much. There isn't that "do or die" aspect to it except for the hardcore amongst us. Garber commented on this aspect of MLS fanship a few months ago, that MLS had to do a better job of getting its fanbase to care more. One day. Takes time I know...
Yea, it's going to be cold Sunday, but no rain in the forcast. 40 degrees is no big deal, crowd should be decent.
You know at some point during the LA-SJ telecast we will actually hear a single fan yelling "Cobi-you suck!"
I'm hoping KC can draw 14-15K. There has been a ton of talk all over the media. Meola called for people to come and to sit in the supporter's section. Big local sports radio guy pimped the game as well and is suppose to be going. PLayers have been on TV. We do have a bad habit of drawing poor in bad weather, but here's hoping our rising numbers this season help us with playoff attendance.
So there is encouraging news in KC, where the media is playing up the game, and NE, where the Patriots fortunately have their bye week. And Hala says Chi is headed towards 20K. Maybe it won't even rain in San Jose. Re-revise my numbers back up another 30%!!
I wouldn't say it's good news from NE. There's been little if any promotion from the Revs on this one. Contrast how KC has hyped the game vs. what's going on here and you see the difference between Lamar Hunt and Bob Kraft -- at least as far as soccer is concerned. One is passionate about MLS. The other sees his team as a tax write off. If the Revs get more than 10,000 tomorrow I'll be shocked. 8-9000 is more like it.
So why are 3 Sunday games scheduled again? So we won't bump into college football but we like to bump heads with NFL? or was it really a stadium/tv conflict?
Looks like 2, 000 people at Arrowhead Stadium on FSW........ what the bloody hell..... MLS has got to do something about this...... the playoffs are drawing shite thus far.....
