Several black soccer players have complained about racist fans during club competitions this season, and the sport's European governing body, UEFA, will meet Thursday to discuss the problem. Arsenal's Thierry Henry, Liverpool's Emile Heskey and Blackburn's Andy Cole are among those who have said they were targets of slurs during Champions League or UEFA Cup games. http://sports.espn.go.com/soccer/news/2002/1006/1441990.html
It's a sad element of the game in many countries. Any team whose fans racially abuse players should be thrown out of European competition immediately.
No they don't. In most countries it really doesn't matter what colour your skin is. Supporters will just do anything to mess with your head and make you lose your concentration. Ofcourse in some countries (mostly eastern european) the supporters do identify themselves with all kind of white power and swastika ************.
Yeah, that's what i figured, Does Arsenal get any flack because they start usually 8-9 brothas in the starting line up?
Not that I know of. The Ajax of (whatever year... can't remember) had a majority of black players in the field most of the time. We made jokes about it on the stands, but nobody actually minded. Mr gil y gil was in Amsterdam at that time and he said (in Spanish) "Where the hell do all those blackies come from? They're everywhere!" talking about A'dam and Ajax.
They will if Arsenal keep winning. No seriously, Arsenal have many key white players too, Bergkamp, Pires, Lunjdberg, Seaman, Keown, Parlour, etc. Lately they've been injured or on the bench. Arsenal have looked like the Harlem globe trotters recently, the footballs been great, even Kanu is scoring a lot.
