Great news. Pibes like these need to be rescued from a non playing limbo.

Hope Boca hold out for the right fee. A move abroad might actually also wake Lionel S up about these players and lead to the removal of those like RdP who are the other side of the hill.

Meanwhile Maximo Perrone had a terrific season in a struggling Las Palmas side. He does need to build his core strength and stamina and perhaps this is what UAE City think too as it's likely he'll be sent out for one more season on loan in La Liga before making the jump to the big team.

His passing stats are the best of any player in Europe's major leagues.

Not sure how accurate it is but Benfica are rumored to be interested in bringing in Nico Paz.

Didn’t see yesterday’s friendly between River and Millonarios, but Carboni is being heavily criticized. Granted it was his debut, but everyone is saying he doesn’t look like Primera material

Gattoni, on the other hand, garnished praise. Hopefully he takes Gonzalez Pirez’s spot

He is rough. I'm hoping they can work on smoothing out the issues he has in his game. Might take a while.

"Tractor up and down the left flank but with wooden planks for feet" sounds about right for a recently-signed River fullback. Hopefully he'll turn out like Casco, even if only Casco has turned out like Casco in the last decade. Hell, I'd make due with him turning out like Mayada, who was also a perpetual motion machine.

Tobias Palacio. You wouldn't like to meet him down a dark alley at night. And then again if you are a striker playing for the opposition against Argentinos Juniors no matter your experience or status you wouldn't like to run into him either.

With a fierce exterior and features seemingly carved out of granite the young man has taken to the Primera like the proverbial duck to water playing like a seasoned veteran not afraid to command players in seniority to him while marshalling the defence with the greatest of confidence.

A particularly outstanding performance against Corinthians in the Sudamericana brought him to wider attention though his progress at Argentinos has been assured.

He's completely comfortable on either foot despite being right footed (and his heat map will show him playing comfortably at LCB) and has a real shift in pace when needed to close down an attacker or to get past a press. And like Romero and Licha he knows how to pass effectively. Indeed several of this new generation of CBs are what the modern CB must be. Namely as comfortable with the ball as without it. I'll mention another in the near future from Romero's alumunus.

He is a terrific competitor, aerially competent and a good timer of the challenge. There's very little already at seventeen that he needs to work out in terms of deficiencies. The sole weakness at the moment is as is often the case with younger players is the odd slip of concentration especially with a run of games where tiredness comes into effect and being too eager to commit leaving space in behind or laterally. It's a risky business but with experience he'll know when to commit better and do as Licha and Cuti do on a regular basis intercept with safety.

Tobias has been training at Ezeiza with the u20s under Placente before they depart tomorrow for the L'Alcudia tournament in Spain where they will play in Group with Brazil, Elche, Valencia and Mauretania.

The rest of the squad also includes some very exciting prospects like Montoro and Carrizo which just highlights that this is one of the strongest generations in many years to come out of Argentina.

    GK:
Santino Barbi (Talleres), Thiago de Bellis (Racing)

    CB:
Tobias Palacio (Argentinos), Juan Villalba (Velez), Lautrao Montenegro (San Lorenzo)

    FB:
Octavio Ontivero (Lanus), Teo Pagano (San Lorenzo), Tomas Olmos (Talleres),

    MF:
Thiago Laplace (Lanus), Santiago Sosa (San Lorenzo), Lautaro Millan (Independiente), Valentino Acuna (Newells), Benjamin Bosch (Velez), Alvaro Montoro (Velez), Iker Zufiaurre (Boca Juniors)

    FW:
Benjamin Acosta (Lanus , Maher Carrizo (Velez)

First fixture is this Sunday against Brazil.

The sooner Federico moves to Europe the better. Don't do an Almada. He's has far too much talent to waste and not get noticed by staying in Miami however pleasant it may be. It's up to him.

Equi going to Saudi Arabia is such a ridiculous move. He is clearly chasing the money. I am sure whoever his backers are telling him, "You're young, go make a lot of money for 2-3 years and then Europe will be waiting for you." He has so much talent but I guess it tells you sometimes where a players priorities are. We've had a number of youngsters who have turned down the Arab money. Equi chasing money is a disappointment. Yet, as I have said in the past, I can't fault a player to chase that silver.

I know other players shouldn't get involved in a players finances but I certainly hope a veteran like Otamendi is talking with him on this or even a youngster like Julian who at one time was offered to Orlando in the MLS but he turned it down. And now look at him, he's literally completed football before turning 25. His turn to make will come. Or even Masche.

He just needs to be patient.

Speaking of Luka, he will be loaned out to Alavés for the season. I think it is a decent move, where I hope he'll actually get game-time. However, I do wish that move to Boca did occur. But let's see what happens.

An idiotic decision if he goes there like Asprilla of Colombia. A pointless competition to learn how to improve against bang average players.

At the COTIF tournament Maher Carrizo scored in the 68th minute to secure a 1-0 win over Brazil. No stream could I find so I watched River versus Lanus. Hopefully some highlights tomorrow. You would think the organizers could get a stream on Youtube.

Mastantuono despite his age shows maturity beyond his years. Yes a few through passes failed but you could see what he was trying to do and his quickness of thought is ahead of others like Solari and Simon as is his ability to pass into feet and onto a coin. Effortless. Had a decent drive in the second half which was tipped over. Great power and accuracy. The sky is the limit for him.

Colidio remember him via Tigre SM. Works hard had a good chance and anticipated it. Doesn't do enough in the box, strength still not great and really needs to work on that to get his scoring rate up to turn defenders and hold them off and then get shots away with time. No Roberto instead we were treated to the terrible Barreiro. Demichelis is a terribly frustrating coach.

Juan Soler who is improving rapidly at left back for Lanus with excellent technique didn't play as he was at the L'Alcudia tournament. Barrenechea had another preseason game with Villa in Slovenia where he impressed all. Hope he can force his way into the starting squad under Emery. The Lo Celso link is talk I think.

I liked Colidio's game a lot at Tigre. He had a European game to his skillset and it showed. He was the perfect partner who did the running for Retegui. He's had some decent to good moments with River.

Not to mention we had Equi, Blondel and at the time and Diego Martinez was the coach. I still think he is going to be a solid manager. One to keep your eye on.

They were a REALLY exciting side.

Not really the biggest fan of Colidio, tbh.. he's a decent player, but has a ceiling. Plus he's a little pecho

I wasn't too fond of him before he joined River (was kind of hoping he joined Boca, tbh.. but he chose us over them), and ever since he joined he hasn't impressed me. He has a good game here and there, but he doesn't seem up to the standard for such a big club.. more of a player for a Velez, or a team of that sort.

Still hoping he proves me wrong and explodes in the Libertadores, but it's just hard to see. I think we're kind of wasting our time with him (like we were with Esequiel Barco, another one I celebrated when he was sold) rather than playing some of our pibes. But we'll see..

Facu will always need to be somebody's Robin. He will never be the best player on the pitch but at least when he played for Tigre, he would do a lot of the dirty work and draw in defenders with his running. I think much of Retegui's success was because of Colidio. When Retegui went to Europe and went to a team player Genoa, I did wonder if they would have a player that could draw attackers. I don't think they do. Perhaps if he moved to a side like Viola, Nico G would help him get his tally up. But since Beltran is there, I wouldn't want him there.

I think with the Italian national team, he's had that, which is why he's got a pretty decent scoring average for them compared that to Genoa.

Borja/Colidio has been our best duo, and I love the synergy between Colibrí and Facu; but that may just be down to me focusing most of my frustration lately on Solari, who always seems to do one more dribble than necessary and is an even worse finisher than Colidio.

Would have preferred to see Ruberto get more chances rather than Barreiro getting brought in, but here's hoping that Barreiro relieves some of our dependence on Borja to play off Facu/Solari.

But I agree that the most exciting player in River's team right now is Mastantuono, who I hope gets to start more often; he has had more drive than any of the much older players competing for his spot every time he's been on the field.

Head well and truly screwed onto his shoulders. Like Soule. The lad missed a year of football as well due to a serious injury and has overcome that, shown his abilities and moved unlike Paz into a squad that will be there or thereabouts in a club that is moving forward (lots of ambitious stadium plans).

Has a quiet self confidence in himself like Soule. Soule has a great agent and a great sense of direction which more of our pibes need on how to build their career. I am sure Roma will be a stepping stone for Matias to showcase himself further. Our kids need to realize that jumping to the so called big circus early is often a mistake. Look at Zuculini junior for instance among many.

Riquelme should leave Boca. He's a terrible President and if he is forcing Equi to go to Saudi he should be ashamed knowing how it felt to be playing in a team and position that do not suit you with scant regard to the kids future and also the seleccion.

There is still no news on the Bombonera redevelopment. The stadium needs to be redeveloped (especially for a future World Cup) on the site or a new one (preferably away from the dockside given potential sea level rise). Great player but he continues to twiddle his thumbs.

Let's not forget, forgetting to registering the new players in time with CONMEBOL so they could play in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana matchup with Independiente del Valle. That's sheer incompetence, no excuse. They're lucky the reserve players they threw out there were able to hang on 0-0 and they won the second leg last night. Could've been a disaster, though the fact they're not in Libertadores already is one... So done with that guy but still so many idiot fans out there chanting his name as if he's done anything good as president.
