Terrible first half. Nothing good at all.
Probably the worst I've seen the team play..

Varela, Nico, and Echevierri together probably little play time were all terrible. High line of 3 in the back were exposed everytime. Our forwards were useless.

Echeverri not sure what he's doing.

Gondou and Castro, the worst possible duo.

Mascherano has not grown as a manager. With Nico and Escheverri alone we should win this game. Also, this pitch is God awful.

We thrashed Bolivia at high altitude without Messi. Even older guys like Otamendi & Di Maria had no trouble with it.

Masche coaching ability caused alot more problem than the high altitude itself. We're talking about u23 players, which technically has alot more stamina.

AFA gifted France the gold medal.

Aaron Anselmino. Just a stripling still but very much in the mould of Cristian Romero.

Even down to his ability to pass accurately out of defence to the flanks or carry the ball from deep. Technically comfortable on the ball. Very right footed so he could be vulnerable to a high press coming at him and does need to work on that left foot.

Very calm, mature beyond his years, captaincy material. Reads the game extremely well which like Romero compensates for a lack of express pace. He has got a great initial step and burst of speed though.

Aerially unlike Romero looks a lot more dominant. Can't see to much wrong with the pibe as he will fill out although he's quite a strong player already. Just work on that left foot. All the other constituents are already in place to be almost a Romero clone.

Sadly the vultures are hovering around already. Dortmund, Benfica, AC Milan and Manchester United are already interested. Could be an outside bet for the Olympics.

Mascherano needs to be removed from the u23. Get Aimar to coach them along with Placente after the Copa. He'll sabotage any chance we have of winning a Gold medal.

There are a couple more names making waves in the youth department, Tomas Parmo and Bautista Ojeda. People are really high on both of these kids. You never know since many of these kids are dubbed as "La Joya" of XYZ but there will not be shortage of cracks coming through the ranks over the handful of years. Parmo shinned in a mini U17 tournament recently. Was instrumental in a 5-0 win v the Saudis and apparently played well v France where the pibes fell short 1-2.

Speaking of Tomas Parmo he is already been well known in Independiente circles as their crowning jewel. He's displayed a terrific vision, ball control predominantly with his right foot and willingness to score from around the box for several years.

No surprises to see him therefore spearhead Argentina u16 midfield. His awareness of others, his link up ability and also to hold off opposition midfielders and defenders is far above average for his age. Always looking for the ball and always scanning the opposition for weaknesses. He's also got grit and a desire to get better. He's just one of several outstanding midfield talents of his age group. Really this has to be one of the finest groups coming through Argentina in decades en masse. I do wonder whether this is also the influence of Messi and his style of running with the ball and the natural style of the Argentine attacking midfielder to carry the ball as well as distribute it. He was a joy to watch in the Montaigu tournament. Not that he alerted any scouts. All the so called big teams know about him but spectators were clearly impressed at some of his touches.

Argentina finished fifth after beating Czechia 2-1. They lost very close games to France 2-1 and Cote d'Ivoire 3-2 while thrashing Saudi Arabia 5-0. In the two games against France and Cote d'Ivoire there was no difference in ability. Indeed the technical aspect of the game was evidenced in the progression of the ball and control of it by the pibes. Just that their strength and stamina isn't quite there yet but will come later.

Thiago Motta is rumoured to be moving to Juve. If that is the case, considering his track record in Bologna, I am excited to see how he develops Soule and Barrenechea.

I bet the Yanks are rubbing their chins and pondering if he’s eligible to play for the US.

Good plan. Follow the McAllister way of establishing yourself as a starter, gain exp. and go to a bigger club

Parmo made his debut for Independiente in the Copa Argentina making him the second youngest debutant for the club. Kun being the youngest.

Also debuting with Parmo and who also played and quite well against Talleres today was Santiago Lopez. A regular for Argentina u17 he is also highly regarded and has a 20M euro release clause.

A very heavily right footed winger he loves to drift into the centre and a good habit for any winger loves to pick up rebounds and finish off crosses from the other wing.

He plays either wing but at the moment he needs to work on his subtlety. He loves to cut in from both wings and is pretty direct with a decent first touch, very good core strength and mentality. He will need to adapt that as opponents become stronger, faster and use his mind a little more. He's a very good passer, very good awareness of the pitch but not that great a dribbler. He's very akin to Garnacho and like him does a lot of work defensively.

As with Alejandro he needs to work on his weaker foot and subtleties in beating an opposing fullback. At the moment it's pretty telegraphed what he will do and he will do it because at the reserve and youth level it gets the job done. Even in today's game against Talleres it did the job a couple of times but on other instances the defenders knew what was coming although they just managed to stop him. A shift up in pace, feints etc also serve a winger well. Nonetheless he and Parmo are the two bright jewels for Independiente with Parmo on another level altogether.

The u17 squad was called up recently. Plenty of representation from two of the traditionally best canteras Argentinos Juniors and River Plate. River supply the two keepers Buratti and Martinez. Most of the changes in personnel are in midfield and upfront. Players like Parmo who are now playing with their first team squads were not called up.

    Oh, brother...

But I will admit that Ruberto and Mastantuono are a couple cracks. Mastantuono looks to be something really special.
