That’s an awful move. They are dead last in the EPL. I’m not sure how this is a good move. Hopefully, he simply says no to the move.

Well, it looks to be a done deal. He is flying into the UK for his medical. A really strange move for one of the better prospects from home.

There's 2 promising Argentinian LBs that are playing in Elche CF in Spain who are last as well in La Liga.

It's not good for our hearts rooting for Elche's and Southampton's survival from relegation :ROFLMAO:

I don’t understand why any youngster at 18 will want this move. Barcelona are interested… for you to play in their B team. Why not just loan him out to another La Liga side. Might as well stay home and continue to hone in on your craft. There have been a number of our players who have gone to Barcelona’s B team and they vanished. Do you really want to play with a B team for 3 years when you’re 21? By 18-19 you should already be knocking to be a regular on the first team. Stay away, at all costs.

3 goals and 1 assist in 27 games, that's not exactly setting the world on fire. But he is going to be playing for the U-20 team in the upcoming South American U-20 Championships (January 19 to February 12).

But I agree, what this kid needs is regular playing time to build up his Game. If he goes to Barca, he will be assign to Barca reserve squad, and could get lost. Insane. He'd be so much better off staying in Argentina and coming up thru the ranks.

Madrid are also fighting for his services. I just hope they let him stay at Velez for at least another year or two. Going to Barcelona’s B is going into the abyss.

Under 20.jpg The squad for the SA U-20. Overall, a strong squad with some noticeable absences (would've been nice to have Garnacho for this, AND why were Carlos Alcaraz, Facundo Farias or the Carboni brothers not called up?? we have talent in the U-20 program, but not all are part of the Albiceleste U-20)

Names to keep an eye for me in this tournament are Gino Infantino, Facundo Buonanotte and Nico Paz. And, I want to see how Mascherano coaches - we stroke gold with Scaloni

Farias turns 21 this year, I think Alcaraz too? For the Carboni brothers, they probably just weren't released by their clubs.
Oh and Farias is injured anyway. He tore his ACL.

Plus clubs aren’t forced to release players for the Sudamericano Sub-20. We often see bigger name players miss these tournaments.

If Mascherano had it his way, players like Garnacho and Soule would be there

The most hype is around Facundo Buonanotte, who is being compared to the "usual suspects" type players.

My buddy has connections to Madrid, said that they are very excited about Nico Paz.

I've never seen most of these young guys play, so it will be exciting. AND, the Albiceleste are on a roll right now. So let's keep it going

I’ve never understood how clubs did not have to release European based players. Isn’t the Sub-20 a FIFA tournament and the qualifiers are connected to the tournament?

I never understood it either. I know from reading the German forum that German clubs hardly ever release their young players bc (I'm guessing) they don't have to. So, I don't think that clubs have to release youth players - there is probably a lot of "grey areas" that the clubs can use to deny the release.

I’ll be interested in this tournament. There is some hype with a few of these names. Nothing official just a speculation of who will play and start:

Would be nice if we can get the coaching appointment for the u20 given to those with the right credentials. There are plenty of coaches with this in Argentina working as club managers.

. . . nobody loves Mascherano more than me, but he may not be ready for a head coaching position. He might be able to improve after spending time on the bench as an assistant, but he is not showing much right now. There is way too much talent in our youth system to be getting these types of results.

Aimar is also a member of the senior side as an assistant, so maybe him

I haven’t been able to watch the matches but from my understand Masche is trying to have the team play some Barcelona styled football? Scrap that nonsense. We all saw what happened to the Gallegos in Qatar. Not only that but there is needs to continuity from the U-15s to all the way to the senior side, we play a similar brand of football. Continuity is the key.

I'm worried he's teaching them a different style to what they may experience with the seleccion in due course. Then again they will mature and be adaptable anyway.

The match against Brazil. Incredibly disappointing. Missed a penalty, hit the bar and missed a couple of very good chances.

If di Lollo is one of the best CBs at his age in Argentina it's a very poor age class for CBs. He has been consistently poor. He's far behind what Perez was at the same age. Another penalty given away as well.

Masche is doing the exact opposite of Lionel. Playing players out of position. Perrone should be at the base of midfield for instance. Play Paz and Buonnanotte together to create more.

The mission is clear now. Win the last two games and hope Colombia do not beat Brazil. There's still a chance. Whatever happens Mascherano needs to be removed and work in some academy or junior club before trying again.
