According to 11v11 site head to head , Argentina only had 1 win against Italy up till 1990, and then we beat them 5 times in a row. Although sometimes another source has a slightly different head to head stats.
Since you are talking about 11x11 all time, I did a quick view through the stats. I noticed Argentina have 2 losses to Norway both times they faced each other in 1986 1-0 and 2007 2-1. Both games had superstars Maradona and Messi playing. Norway owns us.
Both friendlies though. Based on head to head we owns Germany despite them beating us most of the time in WC. We mostly won in friendlies. Head to head stats can be misleading particularly for teams that only meets once in 30 years. For intense, South Korea head to head against Germany is 2 wins 2 losses.
I am Norwegian, and we have never lost against Argentina or Brazil. Madness, as we've mostly been shit forever. EDIT: my friend knows the son of one of the players who played against Diego. Apparently, said player (who was a big guy, probably 20kg's heavier than Maradona) told his son that when he tried to tackle/foul Diego, he felt as if he ran into a wall because Diego was so incredibly strong.
Was watching 2016 final again for the first time in many years, our starting line up includes Rojo, Funes Mori, Mercado, Biglia , S.Romero & an injured Di Maria who only managed to play 50 minutes. What a team
just under half of the team are world cup winners under samp ARGENTINA Goalkeeper - Sergio Romero Defender - Nicolás Otamendi Defender - José Luis Gomez Defender - Gabriel Mercado Defender - Jonatan Maidana Midfielder - Éver Banega Midfielder - Lucas Biglia Midfielder - Angel Di María Midfielder - Lionel Messi Forward - Paulo Dybala Forward - Gonzalo Higuaín BENCH: Goalkeeper - Nahuel Guzmán Goalkeeper - Gerónimo Rulli Defender - Federico Fazio (Substitute ^) Defender - Emanuel Mammana (Substitute ^) Defender - Nicolás Tagliafico (Substitute ^) Defender - Marcos Acuña Midfielder - Ignacio Martin Fernandez (Substitute ^) Midfielder - Manuel Lanzini Midfielder - Leandro Paredes (Substitute ^) Midfielder - Guido Rodríguez (Substitute ^) Forward - Joaquín Correa Forward - Papu Gómez Forward - Lucas Alario MANAGER: Jorge Sampaoli
A fun exercise that I've done is from the players selected for the 2018 WC, what would have been my starting XI (The squad selection was really bad. Player needed to be selected being not selected and with not many real CMs that can run) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_squads#Argentina This is the starting XI that I would have chosen from the players selected -----------------Aguero (30)------Messi (31) Acuna (26)-------Banega (30)---Lo Celso (22)-----Di Maria (30) Tagliafico (25)---Rojo (28)----Otamendi (30)-----Mercado (32) ---------------------------Armani (32) Subs: Enzo Perez??, Dybala I want some legs and energy in midfield to help conserve Messi's energy so Acuna and Lo Celso were definitely needed. Banega build up play was more needed compared to Biglia and Mascherano. Mascherano maybe had a role as a CB but never in midfield at this stage. Armani was in better form than Caballero so he would have been great. Still don't think Argentina would have been 1st in the group stage as Croatia had an incredible team, but would have shown a much better performance in the whole tournament.
We would've likely beaten Croatia if that muerto Perez does not miss an open netter. We probably get a much softer road to perhaps even the final. But anyways, the reality is with Armani and Willy, we were not winning a damn thing. Armani might be the worst regular we've had in my lifetime. He is so damn indecisive.
Yeah, maybe if Perez scored that goal, it would have changed everything. Agree that Armani didn't give me much confidence, think he didn't have much confidence either. Injuries to both S. Romero and Lanzini right before the tournament started changed everything too.
Its crazy that Higuain actually played in all 3 group stage games. I dont even remember his existence until this... We should have given Dybala an extended minutes in that WC, it cant be worst than having Pipita. Also, we could possibly beat the eventual champion if these were given... the unlikely hero Mercado would have had two goals contribution and he also setup the winner against Nigeria. Croatia also handed the ball in 2022 against us, but off course only Diego's handball still being discussed.
To be fair Armani made one or two significant saves against Nigeria which actually saved our ass. Also, his penalty saved in Copa 2019 group stage was important since Scaloni would have been under fire if we're out early. Not saying he's ever been that good, but those saves did helped us to progressed to the next stage.
As many times as we all wanting to introduce young players, or SM wanting Perez to score that one against Croatia. Then again SM, you're always being a senile when someone posted about old matches in stats thread but also b1tch about it when its posted on the yesteryear thread
I did throw you a softball as my mention of Perez is a running gag around these parts. But I am glad you have a bit of fight in you. Well played, kiddo. But as the old adage goes, "If you go for the king, you best not miss..." Kudos to him! But let's be frank here, I am beloved and revered here. I am after all on the Mount Rushmore of BS Argentina. Perhaps not a Founding Father or anything like that, I'll give it to you old heads, but I can see myself as Teddy Roosevelt.
Dude you literally have an archieve of people comments which you'll use once they're proven to be wrong lol. I mean, I do remember users old posts here and there but definetely dont have the archieves of the exact quotes like SM does!

Speaking of great goal, Argentina scored some bangers in games which they lost (particularly against Brazil). This one was a draw
I've forgotten this friendlies for a long time. We played 2 friendlies against Brazil in 1999, winning 2-0 and losing 4-2, both were entertaining games. Great goal by Ortega near the end.
