What do the players make now? and what should they make next year, what will next years team look like with salary increases and what not? Lets get rid of the dead wood as well (APC, Serna, TFIII, Asad) Below is what I think the players on our roster are worth and what we will have left over to pay 2 new Senior internationals....

    Forwards:
    Twellman- $180,000
    Harris- $100,000
    Fuller- $25,000
    Open slot (SI)-

    Midfield:
    Griffiths- $50,000
    Leonard- $25,000
    Rooney- $65,000
    Cloutier- $65,000
    Ralston- $175,000
    Heaps- $110,000
    Kamler- $100,000
    Open slot (SI)-

    Defense:
    Cullen- $100,000
    Pierce- $90,000
    Hernandez- $100,000
    Franchino- $110,000
    Kante- $100,000
    Llamosa- $170,000
    Downing- $30,000

    Goal:
    Sommer- $55,000
    Brown- $120,000

This turned out to be tougher then i thought as I only seem to have 30,000 to spend on senior internationals. Do we really need any senior internationals besides Kante???? I would liek to see some other people take a crack at this problem the revs may be coming into at the seasons end. :-(

First of all, I bet most of the guys wished they made that kind of money. Most are not even close to that, but none of this is made public, so all we can do is speculate.

Certainly Twellman will get a huge raise, as well as some of the other guys, but given that Serna likely makes the max, and APC is probably close if he isn't already there, cutting them (and Sommer) should give us enough to bring in one Maximum salary player, another reasonably high salary guy, give Taylor his raise and still have enough left over to give some other guys a raise and even bring in another $50,000 player.

I think you're a little high on those salaries - especially the defenders. I'd say you could be off by as much as 25K per player. And no offense to Llamosa, but if he were making 170K (or 10% of the total cap) - that would be a problem.

I suspect that after getting rid of the "dead" wood they'll be room for one high range player and one mid-range player.

    Just my guess.

    ,..,

I'd also hope and guess that Rooney will not be back

    Re: ,..,

Likewise Sommer. May as well get some kid from the A-league (or draft a college keeper) and hope we end up with another Busch.

I'd be shocked if Kamler, Cullen and WOlde make as much as you have them down for...as for Llamosa, though, I think you might be right. He has the 'I play for the US nats' cachet going for him and has been a star in the league for several years. That is why part of me thinks we might be better off without him. The other part of me thinks we need to do whatever necessary to keep Downing off the field.

I'm guessing the ACTUAL salaries are closer to this:

    Goalkeepers: ($150,000)
BROWN, Adin - $50,000 (cap cost)
    SOMMER, Juergen - $100,000

    Defenders: ($383,000)
    PIERCE, Rusty - $60,000
    HEAPS, Jay - $45,000
    FRANCHINO, Joe - $45,000
    KANTE, Daouda - $24,000
    LLAMOSA, Carlos - $185,000
    DOWNING, Nick - $24,000 (exempt)
    LEONARD, Marshall - $24,000

    Midfielders: ($745,000)
    CULLEN, Leo - $50,000
    KAMLER, Brian - $65,000
    HERNANDEZ, Daniel - $45,000
    PINEDA CHACON, Alex - $225,000
    RALSTON, Steve - $180,000
    ASAD, Shaker - $24,000 (exempt)
    ROONEY, Jim - $120,000
    CLOUTIER, Braeden - $35,000
    GRIFFITHS, Winston - $25,000

    Forwards: ($348,000)
    FULLER, Ian - $24,000
    SERNA, Diego - $220,000
    HARRIS, Wolde - $80,000
    TWELLMAN, Taylor - $24,000

    Total: $1,626,000

And one more thing... Just cause Rusty needs a haircut doesn't mean hes only making 60,000 dollars... I am pretty sure he and most of the other starters will be making atleast 75 to 100 thou...

Well I think if you start with the assumption that Chacon and Serna and possibly Sommer and Rooney will be gone next year - this means you clear about $565K worth of cap space (about a third of the total cap).

You start by giving increases to the guys who are either woefully underpaid, or that you want to secure for the long term (or both). Such as:
    Brown
    Twellman
    Kante
    Hernandez
    Heaps
    Franchino

Then you see what you have left over to give incremental increases to the guys that you want to keep but who will be out of contract soon (not everybody).

Then you see what's left over and what kind of players are out there.

Seems like there should be enough to go around...

I think Mike's numbers are pretty well on the mark, although I'd bet that Hernandez and Franchino probably make a bit more, maybe 60-75k or so.

Lufty, if the starting eleven all made 75 grand or more, then you've got bench players making a lot (Serna, Sommer, APC) it all adds up to well over the cap limit of $1.8 million or whatever it is. Twellman makes $30,000 tops.

On the bright side, some teams have been faced with tough decisions as far as jetissoning good players for salary cap reasons, but for us that won't be a problem.

Didn't you forget Frias? He must make pretty close to league max...

On a (slightly) more serious note, isn't Leonard also exempt?

Hernandez was making over 100,000 dollars for the MetroStars so I don't think they dropped him down to 45,000 to come to the Revs...he definately would have retired then...just a thought

Very true. And I'm sure we were paying Andy Williams decently, so those two probably just switched places but kept their salaries equal...
