Howard- 6: Made a few big saves but came off his line a bit out of control a few times and was almost burned. Hejduk- 5: What can you say about Frankie? He's consistently mediocre. Decent defending, terrible with the ball, hustles all the time. Berhalter- 2: Worst player on the field, barely. Too many bad things to even get started. Califf- 4: He is young so I'll cut him some slack unlike Berhalter who has been around the block. Vanney- 2: Almost the worst player out there. His free kick that missed by about 1.3 miles sums up his game pretty nicely. Armas- 2: Worthless, and I'm a Fire fan. He gave away more balls than he won today. Beasley- 7: Best US player for a majority of the match. Lewis- 5: Hit a few decent crosses, no factor against better teams after ripping it up against inferior opponents. Convey- 4: He did OK, but if he is going to play in the center of midfield he has to be a factor. Name one thing he did today? Exactly. You have to remember something about a player who played where he did. Donovan- 5.5: I thought he was terrible except for the final 15 minutes. Having said that, read my comments about Convey. Donovan disappeared for much of the game... but then sets up the goal and almost sets Mathis up for another. He's a difference maker but he must be more of a leader- even at his age. Kirovski- 3: Is is coincidence that the US started to attack better when Mathis came in? I don't think so. Mathis- 6.5 Obviously is our most dangerous forward. Late in the game when Beasley was fouled for a free kick, where was Mathis? He let Convey hit an outswinger. He needs to stop up and demand that shot. These seem pretty low, but I have high expectations and the US surely didn't meet them today. The end result isn't important to me or the fact that the PK was bull. We got soundly outplayed and that deserves low marks.
