In 2004-2005, he was only the number 2 at Strabourg, but he played all the League Cup games. We won the League Cup that year, and Vercoutre played his part well, without any blunder. Of course, the Champion's league is a completely different thing.
Vercoutre was also in the nets for the losses to Toulouse and Bordeaux in the second half of the season. But he played fairly well during the OM-OL game in October and the first derby.
Vercoutre originally started out as #1 at Strasbourg but then he broke his foot just weeks after his first game. Two months later, he came back to full fitness only to find that Cassard had already usurped his spot. His return from the injury coincided with Kombouare's dismissal, which I think is indicative of why things did not go his way from then on. Hence, I chose not to take his loan spell at Strasbourg as a true reflection of his capabilities. I know he could do a lot better there had he been given the support from the management.
Then why can't he be more commanding in the air? I guess he doesn't actually play basketball but enjoys watching it.
Vercoutre does not fill me with confidence. He was okay against Auxerre but didn't have anything to do, but against Toulouse, who were constantly attacking, he always seemed to be caught unawares.
He's too nervous, not decisive enough. But the guy Lyon want to bring in for the #2 spot, Frederic Roux, may not be much better. I really regret Riou's departure now.
well, i saw bats in goal for the sonny jubilee... we can't count on him either! really, vercoutre is very good. he's capable of picking up his game and getting the job done, but he better not take too much longer!
