With the Silva departure we now have 2 senior roster spots open, one being an international spot, but doesn’t appear we have anything cooking. Wtf is Lutz doing? I’m fine getting rid of Silva, never was a fan, but now what?
There goes the international spot. We aren’t doing anything else this window. Screw this team! https://www.stlcitysc.com/news/st-l...10MebJrJgmI7EvVHHQ_aem_gMYPiHBGeHd0JHE2tIgkAw
There are a couple teams that need Garber bucks to buy down player salaries to get under the cap. Miami is an obvious team in that situation. Pure speculation, but could CITY have accumulated GAM to swap for a domestic player? Or could CITY use it to buy out another player?
It really feels as if we don't have a plan at this point. We had one, it failed, and now we are flailing in the wind, with no plan on how to get out of our predicament.
Colorado is a team who things didn't go according to plan when they sold their stud DP to Toronto. But they were able to quickly pivot to a new plan. We don't have that pivot... 💣🇺🇸 BREAKING: The Colorado Rapids are in advanced talks to sign USMNT attacker Paxten Aaronson from Eintracht Frankfurt, sources say.Final details now for Colorado. A number of European teams were trying hard to get him.Potential club-record deal. https://t.co/rWgcslJx4s— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) August 19, 2025
And Colorado's sale of Djordje Mihailovic was at his request. It sounds like the request was unrelated to the team or Colorado. It's scary that anything owned by Kroenke is outperforming CITY.
Matthew Doyle's late-night speculation from yesterday: Does Cedric Teuchert fit in D.C. or Montreal? Cedric Teuchert was excellent when he arrived in St. Louis mid-summer last year, putting up 7g/4a in about 1,000 minutes across all competitions as a trequartista in interim head coach John Hackworth’s very fun, very open system. He’s dropped off significantly this year with just 3g/2a in about 1,400 minutes, and hasn’t once looked comfortable under either Olof Mellberg or David Critchley. It’s an insane drop-off from a guy who’s spent the past few years being a reliable, professional goalscorer. Teuchert’s got a TAM deal that’s guaranteed through next summer and would make a lot of sense playing underneath Christian Benteke in D.C. or Prince Owusu in Montreal. And I suspect he could be had at a relative discount given his struggles this year, and the likelihood that St. Louis are certainly thinking about recruiting over him this winter (and would probably love to have the cap space). Meanwhile, Matt Baker reports that Teuchert and Wentzel trained with the team today, and no players were absent.
I wouldn't read too much into this. It clears a roster spot through the end of this season, and waivers at the end of the season will clear several more. It lets him play some more matches against different competition, and keeps him on a short leash.
CITY signed Brendan McSorley to a first team contract through the end of 2025, with options for 2026 and 2027. He will be eligible for tomorrow's match.
St. Louis CITY SC loaned Jake Girdwood-Reich to Auckland FC of the A-League and signed CITY 2 player Seth Antwi to a first team contract. CITY has a right to recall Jake before January 1, 2026 and the loan only runs through June 2026. Basically this is a roster juggling move so he gets to do winter training US time early in a beautiful warm place that is just moving into Spring. And he will be able to visit with his family in Sydney, when he is playing matches practically in their back yard. Oh, the suffering.
The MLS 2025 Free Agency list is out. Ben Lundt is out of contract when the season ends and will be a free agent unless he and CITY agree to a new contract. Chris Durkin, Henry Kessler, Alfredo Morales, and Josh Yaro have options, but would be free agents if the options are not exercised.
Durkin signs long term. I’m ok with that I think. Here to stay ✍️We have signed midfielder Chris Durkin to a new contract through June 2028 with a club option for the 2028-29 season.🗞️ https://t.co/P2TVVhZSxr pic.twitter.com/1jqoYKoM22— St Louis CITY SC (@stlCITYsc) February 25, 2026
Becher stays. I'm ok with this as a backup forward option. He was our lowest paid senior player. We just need a true DP 9, not Cordova.
The MLS released its club by club calculation of available GAM after the roster compliance date. CITY has $2,227,157 in GAM, about the middle of the league. The top five teams in GAM are in the Western Conference: kansas at $6.38 million, Colorado at $5.00 million, Portland at $4.79 million, San Jose at $4.73 million, and RSL at $4.44 million. Philadelphia interrupts the Western parade, and then San Diego is at $4.21 million and Minnesota at $4.16 million. Houston deserves a mention at $2.31 million, along with Dallas at $1.58 million. The Eastern GAM spenders aren't entirely doing well. Atlanta, Cgarlotte, and Orlando are GAM-poor and playing poorly.
Justin Horneker reports that CITY's GAM figure does not include the $250,000 in 2026 GAM from Josh Sargent's signing with Toronto FC. That deal will also have $250,000 in 2027 GAM and another possible $225,000 GAM in performance incentives.
I would love to know where all the GAM we've collected has gone. Also, we were led to believe that we would be converting the entirety of the Klauss fee to GAM which would mean it has to be reinvested in the team and not just line CKB's pockets...that obviously hasn't happened.
The news we have been fearing most of all...Ilona Lowen passed away. After a two-year battle with cancer, Ilona Löwen passed away this morning, March 9, 2026.We grieve alongside Edu and all those impacted by this loss and ask the CITY community to keep them in your prayers during this difficult time. Ilona was a beautiful example of love,… pic.twitter.com/HdX7oU8f8T— St Louis CITY SC (@stlCITYsc) March 9, 2026
