Any suggestions for who we might sign as our designated player? Not going to happen, but I’d love if we signed Lewandowski. He would be 34 when we start playing.
Don't know, Transfer Markt shows he was transferred to Schalke, then cut. Hasn't played since December, turns 37 next month. Would make him 39 mid season our first year. Does he have citizenship? Transfer Markt indicates he does, so he could play as a domestic? not in a foreign slot? Definitely not a DP player. I guess if he catches on somewhere for the next season, and looks ok, I might gamble on his leadership/experience if he was willing to play cheap. https://www.transfermarkt.us/vedad-ibisevic/profil/spieler/21175
St. Louis CITY SC @stlCITYsc 16h Show us what you got, STL Open to males 18-24, our new Professional Development Team will be a stepping stone from @MLSNEXT to @MLS and we want to cultivate the best pipeline of talent from our region. #OneTeamOneCITY http://stlcitysc.com/open-trials
I don't understand this at all. I realize you got to sign when you can sign. But how about a big signing as your first player. This spanks of St. Louis, FC - check list - have Bosnian on roster Now the Bosnians will come. Totally insulting. Additionally, you have a waiting list for fans, you don't have to cater to anyone.
IDK, I would rather have a bunch of generally solid players rather than have a couple of "big signings" and be weaker down the ranks. Plus, the club is already doing a relatively atypical expansion process, having started all the auxiliary things like an academy, reserve team, esports representative, etc. before the first team ever gets off the ground, so I don't think the "first signing" was ever going to make waves like normal first signings do, no matter how "big" the first signing was. One thing I do want for the team is to be representative of the city, and having the first signing be Bosnian is a great move in that sense to communicate that the team also wants to be representative of the community. If all of the first several signings have some tie to the STL area, I think that's a much better advertisement for the club than any big-name might be.
DONE DEAL ✍️ We have signed @fckoeln midfielder Tomáš Ostrák to a @MLS contract! #stlCITYsc x #TheFutureIsNow🔗https://t.co/wnsyMwAt8s pic.twitter.com/AwwqHqvt6G— St Louis CITY SC (@stlCITYsc) March 1, 2022 Not entirely sure how you pulled this one off, but this is quite the get for an expansion team.
Yeah. He must have wanted to play in the US really badly. 22 years old and playing in the Bundesliga and you agree to go to MLS?
In fairness he isn't getting many minutes, but spent most of last 2 seasons on loan in top flights of Austria and Czech Republic where he played regularly. He still was regarded as having potential by fans at Koln by most accounts and other German sides were interested as well (though maybe relegation or BL2 teams).
Roman Bürki set to join St. Louis City SC - BVB keeper rejected Bayern offer In 7 years, he's averaged 25 games per year. - not bad. He's averaging 1.23 goals per game - seems high, but the Bundesliga has a lot of goals. League averages 1.56 goals per game. Last year is a concern as his was 1.62
We have signed the Swedish national and @arminia center back Joakim Nilsson to a@MLS contract. #stlCITYsc #TheFutureIsNow https://stlcitysc.com/news/st-louis-city-sc-signs-swedish-international-defender-joakim-nilsson…
CITY SIGNED Another CITY2 standout has signed to move up to the First Team. Kyle Hiebert, welcome to @MLS #stlCITYsc x #TheFutureIsNow
Any word on a third DP? Winger still appears to be a need, hope they’re looking in South America for a young up and comer.
This more than a little shocking. Spoke with St. Louis City's Lutz Pfannenstiel on inaugural roster build:“We’re not really on the hunt any more for DPs. .. In my world, there are no Designated Players... We believe in DT – Designated Team! 11 players must make a difference, not 1 or 2." https://t.co/svlHEnmWft— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) October 6, 2022 it says two things: 1. We don’t understand MLS 2. We don’t want to spend money. Both are bad messages to send.
Minnesota's Eleven@sotaseleven BREAKING: #MNUFC and St. Louis City SC have reached a transfer agreement for Aziel Jackson. Minnesota could receive upwards of $150k including add-ons if incentives (# of games played) are met, and retains a 15% sell-on clause. Reporting with@willhansonmls
surely they’re just posturing so as not to have prices artificially inflated when inquiring about players. If true, it’s really disappointing as a STL City season ticket holder that they don’t want to spend the money. A good DP can make all the difference, especially for an expansion team, as we all know. (See: Driussi, Mukhtar)
Hopefully, the expansion draft on Friday will result in some experienced players we can build a team around. Each team can protect 12 players plus their homegrown players. DP are not automatically protected. CITY can pick a total of 5 players So there are going to be quality players available. We can not take from Austin FC, Atlanta United FC, D.C. United, LAFC, New York City FC as Charlotte took from them. The list available players will be released Thursday.
