I'm in the infant stages of planning a group trip to a Charge match this summer. I'm going to contact the Charge but I am also seeking any advice / comments such as: Which is better, if any - Wednesday night, Saturday 4 PM, Saturday night???? Lodging and restaurants in area? etc. I've never been to Philly - I'm in PA but but Philly is about as far as I can go with out leaving the state! Thanks in advance.
With the exception of two matches, all the rest are on Saturdays at 7pm, or 4pm if on national tv. Contacting the Charge is the best way, because some one in the front office will check up on you, and even visit you in your seats, to see if there's anything they can do to help you. see Philadelphiacharge.com for details, such as how to get to the stadium, tickets, etc
best place for groups are NB or SF...your team may love SF because thats where the charge enter the field. As for hotels, the only one i know of near the staidum is the Radnor hotel which i dont think is too cheap. there are many though around the villanova/bryn mayr area including holiday inn types. Most games are at night, which is better because it is less hot...you should also know that the N sections face the sun during afternoon games while the S sections do not. The S side is also where the players do thier autographs after games. I dont know the town your coming from so i cant give you directions. Im assuming this is the first time you will bringing your team to see the Charge so heres a primer you can give your group. Players to watch: Heather Mitts, Jenny Benson and the backfield in general. Kelly Smith, Marinette Pichon. The charge are pure skill players and often play complex formations. If you wanna teach the kids how to be an effective player without being a scorer, keep an eye out for Tullock. Rivalry Games: Washington, Atlanta, NY Streach Run: July and August is when the teams really rack up the intensity. Other notes. Make a weekend of it! Take the kids to see independence hall and the like the day after the game...philly has alot of tourist attractions to offer. or The weekend of august 3rd will be a good time to show up, not only is there going to be a charge game that weekend but Man U will open up the Linc...2 great teams on one trip if your budget can afford it. We hope to see more groups like you show up at nova this year...any more help needed, just post.
Going the Indepedence Hall and the Liberty Bell, be prepared to stand in line a long time for the security checks. The train is a good idea, except returning on a saturday night after the match, you might have a long wait since the trains are infrequent. For the seasoned city traveler, go to 69th st by el and take the Norristown high speed line. Some people are a bit jittery doing it, but it's far safer than you can imagine. Staying in town is best, particularly if you prefer excellent restaurants and other cultural activities.
agree the philly el is pretty safe but i would reccomend getting a schedule first since the stations could use a wipedown. the trains themselves are 1st rate...either that or the R5 which leaves from 3 stops in center city and goes straight to villanova a 2 min walk across campus to the staidum but again get a schedule if its a night game, you may be compelled to leave a tad early or skip out on autographs.
My recommendation is get tickets for Saturday August 2nd against Atlanta.. And then on Sunday August 3rd... MANCHESTER UNITED contra FC BARCELONA.. at the new Eagles stadium..get your tickets next week, wehn they go on sale. should be a fantastic FOOTBALL weekend!!! Charge match should have play-off implications and how often do you get to see either of the mens sides play LIVE
agreed...i believe i mentioned that somewhere in my rant...would be a great weekend...i know im gonna spring for a room that weekend and get tix to both. adam, have tix gone on sale to the GP yet?
gotta wait till next month... all I know is, there's huge demand, where I work, I know of 3 other people who want tickets... I would expect a scalpers delight... Now if ONLY the Charge front office could do us season ticket holders a favor and use COMCASTS pull to get season ticket holders allocated the chance to get tickets prior to the general public.. but alas poor yorick...they are gone to the suits in high heaven!!
Damn...well ill be calling scalpers and crashing the Ticketmaster.com site whenever they go on sale. luckly i can just buy 1 ticket somewhere in the never reaches but if the charge would get some sale offer to season ticket holders it would be the best thing theyve ever done for their fans since they signed kelly... Lemme repeat that in case big sister is watching us. if the charge would get some sale offer to season ticket holders it would be the best thing theyve ever done for their fans since they signed kelly!!!!!
I'd wager the price of the ticket, we'll see about 20 Charge players at the match on Sunday... so, if they can get tickets, then so can we.. hint...hint...hint...
LOL...you are right, i wouldnt be suprised for the charge to get some tix and sell the leftovers to season ticket holders. or even make it the 11th game weve paid for and havent got yet...ummm big sis...do i need to repeat that too
March 15 is the sale date, I believe, for ManU-Barcelona, or did they change the date? I'm interested in getting a ticket for this, too... Paul
Great stuff! I appreciate it. I've already penciled in the ManU-Barca game. I'm waiting too see the price of the tix. So the 8/2-3 might be good thing however it might be price prohibitive for a group of a larger size, which I'm hoping for. I'm just trying to do my part to help sell tickets, actually. The Manu-Barca tix go on sale 3/15 at Ticketmaster. The latest info I can find is at ("latest" is stretching it): http://www.championsworld.com/newstop.asp?NEid=437824 I still say that the best thing about the Man U - Barca match is that REAL football will be the grand opening of a not-so- much -foot, football game! Where's Lincoln Financial Field in relation to Villanova? I'll be coming from the northwest - either via the turnpike / Lancaster (which appears good for getting to Villa) or from Allentown via the northeast extention (I think that's right). the closest I have been to Philly is Lehigh U for a WNT game in a monsoon about 5 years ago. I'm about 90 miles east of Erie, a long way from Philly- so it's a hike. My plan is to pick a date,set-up the bus trip, lodging, etc, make some brochures( or get them from the Charge?) and distribute throughout the youth soccer league of 2000 or so members in my area of North-Central PA I'm thinking that if others could do this then we can talk about this league for a long time! Thanks again for your comments

Lincoln Field is located right next to I-95, in the South Philly Sports Complex area. As to comparing ManU--Barca to the Charge, there's some stuff kelly Smith can do which Beckham would be envious!!
UMMM charge...if the POWER are doing this kind of promotion...well its not very good to be outpromoted by a team that can barely draw a picture to its home games http://www.nypower.com/343981.html So sell us those Man U tix!!!!!!!!!
since i somehow doubt that all that many people in the organization read this site... why don't we call the team?
1. you'd be suprised how much response weve gotten from this site based on some actions weve seen from the charge fan realtions team. 2. darn tooting im calling the charge...and spread the word. i just posted here cuz well...its an article to post
actually some of the office staff with the charge used to monitor these sites... and some of the articles appearing on their website address concerns discussed here, but it could be the case the articles have independent origin... ..or maybe NOT... I'm sure the Charge have know the pulse of their fans...
I called the Charge office today. They were very helpful and enthusiastic about their ticket / special group events/packages, etc. I am impressed!
Yes, they are very good. There was a San Jose fan, who attended a convention in Atlantic City, took the train from Atlantic City to 30th st and then to Villanova. Enjoyed her team, actually sat with us, and then and then we drove her back to 30th st from Villanova. The Charge staff checked in with her during the 2nd half to ensure all her needs were met. Chargefans, who post here went to almost every road match last year. And then have similar stories about the rest of wusa, very cordial and helpful to soccer fans. Good way to run things.
yes even the regular old nuts like us get visited by the gang every so often and it isnt to tell us to shut up they have all been nothing but nice to their fans...and hence they have a loyal fanbase. you need any information or questions be sure to post here and we will tell you where to go. and stop by NC and say hi...contrary to popular belief we dont bite
