Jets Unveili Plan For Manhattan Stadium I would have posted this in the Stadiums forum but this will probably have minimal effect on the Metrostars, except for the potential SSS at Harrison's attractiveness as a concert venue. The stadium is already meeting from opposition area residents expect major traffic congestion on game days. Officials say the stadium won't add to the congestion since it won't have a parking lot and it will be accessible by public transit (the site is near Penn Station, PA Bus Terminal and PATH), but you know some fans will be using the parking garages in the area. I don't see this stadium happening. I believe plans for new stadiums for both the Yankees and Mets are on hold, and even if it is part of the Olympic bid, it's going to be difficult selling this to the city. But we'll see.
Realistically I don't see it happening. Plus I don't think I'd want it to happen either. Like you said, there are plan on hold for the Mets and Yankees to have new ballparks. That was one of the things Rudy wanted before he left office but Bloomberg put the idea on hold and rightfully so I guess. So until those happen (more for the Mets, couldn't give a rat's ass where the Skanks play), I highly doubt we'll see a Jets stadium, in Manhattan no less, anytime soon.
I think the point of emphasis is the Olympics. From a cultural and socio-economic perspective, I'd be interested to see if the football fan would be willing to take a train to a game. I think the last trolley cart football team was the Eagles. I've been told that Franklin Field is in the middle of an urban neighborhood. It's a brilliant stroke for the Jets because now, instead of fans tail-gating before a game, eating their own food, drinking their own beer, they'll have to come into the stadium and buy the Jets' crappy food and the Jets' flat beer.
