Does anyone know of places to watch the Quake games in the East Bay, i.e. Oakland, Berkeley, San Leandro?
I don't know of any off hand, but if you wanted to come to Kezar it would be doable - bart to Muni N-Judah line, get off at Stanyan walk down to pub - reverse home. I know this doesn't answer your question and is probably a little more trouble than you want to go through, but we would all be happy to see you there. james
One place is The Englander Pub. This place is dying to become a soccer restaurant/pub. They even put the Quakes and CyberRays on their events list. They put a Quakes game on the big screen for me, when the Giants were on. Needless to say, it pissed off a few patrons. Unfortunately that is the main problem. Too many patrons aren't interested in watching soccer (although that may have changed since I haven't been there in a season). The owner will find a set for you as long as no other huge sporting events take up all the space. I watched several big soccer events there. I even managed to watch the Crew/Fire Open Cup final a few years ago there (an often told story of mine). Of course I'm a little wary of going to a Raiders establishment as I might fear for my life, but what would soccer be without a few hooligans? I'll be sure to make a few trips to the city this season to catch some games as well.
Ricky Ricardo (yes, his real name), the owner, actually will go out of his way to see if they can find a set to show the game you want to see. In regards to the big games, I've watched the US/Germany '98 WC match, the Euro 2000 final (and paid a $20 cover), as well as the Man U/Bayern Munich Champions league final all on a big screen with the room full of other fans. You wouldn't have any problems there. I never have (but then again I look like a Raiders fan ). However, you'd probably have better luck watching MLS at the Englander. Guy
Englander in Dublin There's also an Englander pub in Dublin on San Ramon Rd, a couple blocks north of 580. I think this one opened sometime in the last year. They had about 5 or 6 big plasma screens above the bar and the requisite huge projection screen on one wall. It's a pretty big place. RadioGal and I stopped there for dinner about two months ago and they had a Spanish La Liga game on two of the TVs above the bar.
So of course, in my info hunt on watching yesterday's game, I looked up the HD Network viewing site and lo and behold Ricky's is one of the locations listed.
