I'm visiting a friend in PA in November and was wondering what some good places to eat in Philladelphia are. I am big on atmosphere, and like Italian and seafood and stuff. Nothing too expensive either. Just looking for somewhere that is "neat" and has good food.
CHEEEESESTEEEAAAKS!!! I know theres a place on South St that pretty good(forgot the name), Then you got Genos and Pats! They all good. Try one each days.
Jim's Steaks http://www.roadtripamerica.com/eats/jims.htm I was going to suggest Le Bec Fin or Morimoto, but you said not too expensive so scratch those ideas.
If you don't get a real cheesesteak (not a "steak and cheese sandwich", and sure as hell not a "Philly cheesesteak") you're screwing yourself. Jim's (the place Serg mentioned on South St.) is by far and away the best in the city IMO, but any of the Big 3 (Jim's, Pat's, Geno's) are good as are a whole host of smaller places. There's also a bunch of good Chinese places in Chinatown (the area surrounding the Market East train station, Convention Center, and Gallery shopping mall). In my experience in Philly Chinatown, the more run-down/shady/hole-in-the-wall a place is the better the food is (with a few exceptions), so you don't have to worry about your budget there.
genos and pats? please... the best place for cheesesteaks isnt even in philly, anyways. its in claymont, DE. the claymont steak shop ********ing rules. there are some cool restaraunts around society hill. a few good middle eastern places. then again, having said that you like italian and seafood, that doesnt really help you.
Hadn't heard anything about that actually. Going Nov 12-14th. And my friend knows all about the cheesesteaks already, I need like restaurant restaurants.
the dickens in, now renamed the darkhorse i think, is a decent little english pub. www.dickensinn.com its walking distance from jim's as well, and you'll find quite a few nice inexpensive resturants in that area. philly is a great damn city, enjoy.
I am not an expert on Philly dining but, the last time I was there some friends took me to Dante’s and Luigi’s. It was kind of like a classic, Italian, neighborhood-type place. The food was very good.
Very true, I have had better cheesesteaks in California. For lunch check out the Reading Market. Its an indoor farmers market with loads of food stalls, you will have a hard tme deciding what to eat, there are so many choices.
any soft pretzal vendor that has his/her cart in the sunshine. THAT way, you know they're warm! You'll need about a quart of your favorite beverage to wash it down, regardless.
Use to go for pizza at a place called Celabrese's,,,damn good pizza,,,,anyone know if its still around?
You should all be ashamed. None of you threw down Bookbinder's. I haven't been to Philly in more than 30 years but I still remember that one.
It was closed for a few years after financial troubles and declining quality. That's why people forgot about it. However I think it reopened recently.
