Cheers. This is P.J. Scheufele (they spelled his name wrong), a 2006 graduate of Dartmouth who hails from Massachusetts. Profile: http://athletics.dartmouth.edu/sports/m-soccer/mtt/scheufele_pj00.html
This is Northern Ireland by the way, just to be clear. Their website says his clearance has come through and he's available for tonight's game.
"Formerly with Cape Cod Crusaders, who play in the tier of football next to the top division in America, he's a midfielder with a considerable amount of talent and I think he will do a capable job for us."
Northern Ireland's league is called the "Irish League" and Ireland's league is called the "Eircom League" so it can be a little confusing. Also Derry City is located in Northern Ireland but part of the Eircom League.
Wow...good for PJ ! Slightly off topic for YA, but... Prior to Dartmouth, PJ went to high school at the Belmont Hill School which is in the Independant School League (ISL). Additional recent successful division 1 college players from ISL schools include Charlie Davies (BC), Mike Videira (Duke), Brendan Fitzgerald (Duke), Mike Fucito (Harvard - Ivy league rookie of the year two years ago), Chris Tierny (Virginia) and Matt Mitchell (freshman at Virginia) BTW, Sheannon Williams, who is on the U-17 National team, went to Rivers (another ISL school) prior to going to Bradenton. Two more current ISL players are in the National pool - Scott Caldwell (Milton Academy) and Aaron Maund (Roxbury Latin)
Here's a write-up on PJ from his college paper: http://www.thedartmouth.com/article.php?aid=2006110603010
This excursion is over: They face Larne this afternoon and their new boss Paul Curran - who is still looking for his first win - is expecting to be busy during the January window. He has already done some business, bringing in defender Padraig Gollogley and this week released American midfielder PJ Scheufele after only one starting appearance for the club. Link: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/local/article2079515.ece Scheufele's name is on the player list for the USL Showcase (combine) so I suppose this explains why!
