Beating last year's record is a little too crude a measure of success, since it disregards the strength of the teams they've played this year as compared to last year. But, it's true they may be starting to turn around. Right now, based on historic rating trends I(which incorporates the strength of opponents), they should be 3 wins/3 losses/1 tie. They actually are 4 wins/2 losses/1 tie. It isn't a big change in direction, but it still might be a change.
I went to their game against Duquesne. They looked 100x's better than previous years. Granted yes its Duquesne and not playing a great team but Duquesne took them o OT last year and this year Pitt had full control (maybe with he exception of the first 5 minutes). We will really see over the next few weeks with conference fixing to start what strides have been made. Last year they won 0 conference games. Also there was a big group of girls on the sideline during warm ups. Im assuming their recruits on a visit. (Big rivalry football game this weekend so big recruiting weekend). Not sure what class they were but those girls looked way more athletic than anything Pitt had on the field currently.
Pitt match against No. 16 Kansas cancelled due to weather. Non-con schedule over. Louisville is next.
seemed weird that their game was scheduled for weather but Duquesne played their game at the same time with no problem. Duquesne's camps is like 1.5 miles from Pitts field for those who don't know.
I no longer live in the area, but Pgh has gotten several inches of rain in the past 48 h, so today must just have been much worse. Also, what kind of pitches do the Pgh schools have? Maybe Pitt's reacts worse to waterlogging? https://kuathletics.com/news/2018/9/9/soccer-kansas-pittsburgh-match-cancelled-due-to-weather.aspx
Pitt and Duquesne both have turf fields. Apparently there was something wrong with Pitts draining system under the field. It wasn't draining properly so there was a lot of standing water which made it unsafe for the players.
So, I've been a bit busy with non-soccer life. Looks like we're at 4W-1D-4L for the regular season. Coming off of a 3-0 loss home to UNC. Sunday, they will be at NC State.
They looked ok against Louisville. They were actually able to keep the ball a little bit against Louisville. Problem is they have no offensive threat at all so it dies in the midfield. Against UNC they were completely outmatched. To be fair. . .most teams are against UNC. Their best chance for a win in the ACC are coming up soon with games against Virginia Tech and Miami on the horizon.
Lost 6-0 to NC State, who emptied the bench at 3-0 & kept scoring. This is a big, BIG rebuilding job.
Lost at home to Miami tonight. Gave it a good effort, but came up a goal short. Looking at the schedule, that was probably their only realistic chance of a conference win. If Randy is really in this for the long haul, it's going to take a full two recruiting classes actually being on campus before anything really changes.
