Pirlo was called in Trap's squad for the Euro 2000 qualifier versus Azerbaijan? Awesome. I wonder if he'll be subbed as an attacking midfielder or in a deeper role like Ancellotti has newly employed him.

How old is he, 21? They should sell him. He has such talent, but with Rivaldo, Rui Costa, and Tomasson on the team how will he ever start?

That would be ridiculous for Milan to sell a young prospect so early. Pirlo has tons of talent and a promising future and would be a steal for any other club.

Milan have said in the past they are not considering any bids.

well then they should at least loan him or rui costa or tomasson or someone, or else he won't mature!

he has probably already replaced Rui Costa in Ancelotti's heart; i guess Trapattoni won't let him in the match unless there's some garbage time available, but he probably sees Pirlo as a trequartista, conversely to the inclination of the player himself

anyway, the overlooking of Fiore (again) more than counter-balance for this "brave" concession to "bel gioco"

    Trapattoni needs to be fired

He came on without 20 minutes left, replacing Inzaghi with the score 2-0. Del Piero moved up to Inzaghi's spot.

I wouldn't be suprised at seeing a loan occur with all the experienced talent Milan has in the midfield. Although Tomasson isn't part of that talent. Redondo, Rivaldo, Dalla Bona, Ambrosini, Seedorf, Gattusso and others are. :)

I'd see Pirlo as competing more with Rivaldo than Rui Costa in a role of playing behind Shevchenko and Inzaghi.

Well, as it turns out, he's playing in a now defensive role with AC Milan. WIll he with Italy, or willl it be more offensive?

Is it really a defensive role or a deep distributing role - sort of what Albertini used to do for them. Pirlo is not a ball-winning defensive midfielder - that's Ambrosini and Gattuso's role - but he does seem to have the ability to show for the players who DO win the ball and make quick crisp passes to the right spot to start the attack.

Pirlo is the man. Based on the way the Italian midfield played in the World Cup, I would start him now

Just read all of this now, crazy in hindsight people thought Pirlo should be loaned out because of Ambrosini. Pirlo sure did master that trequartista role ;)
