However, unless you're living in the region of one of the competing teams, ESPN will give you "whiparound" coverage, where the best action from the other games being shown at the same time will be shown. For example, on Saturday at 8 PM, ESPN2 will be showing both the SMS-OSU game and the UT-FSU game. If you live in Missouri or Ohio, you'll get the SMS-OSU game in its entirety. If you live in Texas or Florida, you'll get the UT-FSU game in its entirety. If you live anywhere else, you'll get coverage that shifts back and forth between those games and the Houston-Rice game at the same time. ESPN explains it all here But if you want to see any game you want, in it entirety, there's a new PPV package, the ESPN College Grand Slam package. For $20, you get to watch any and all of the Super Regional games in their entirety during the weekend. I was thinking about getting the package, but since UT is in the marquee matchup of the weekend, all the games will be on national TV.
Well, this can only mean one thing. Jim Rome is going to reset his college baseball take very soon PING!!!!
OH---IO! OH---IO! according to ohio state they have sold 3,000 tickets for the games this weekend, which is insane considering they just released the schedule yesterday. i guess people are pretty excited about the bucks chances... bob todd <osu head coach> has done an amazing job with ohio state's basebal program the past 10 years or so, especially when playing against all these southern teams...for his sake, i hope they beat SMS and go to the college world series...he has had better teams in the past but they never we able to get a home super regional. now that they have, i hope they put it all together...
Dirtbags? Anyone know why Long Beach State's baseball team is called the Dirtbags (instead of the 49ers)? Just wonderin.
Re: Dirtbags? Well, as you can see from the banner at the top of this page, 49ers and baseball still go together. This page explains that Dirtbag is a baseball-only nickname; regrettably, it does not explain why. I'd like to hear the story, though.
I read somewhere that their first team to make it to the CWS gave themselves the nickname to signify a gritty, hard-working image. And it still fits with the miner motif of the official nickname. Go Big West!
If I can dig up the source where Long Beach State got the name "Dirtbags", I'll post it. Also CSUF has changed their Fri. game to 2:05 PM PST and Sun. to noon PST.
ohio state has sold out both games for sat and sun... the possible 3rd game will only go on sale if needed.
Give the man a cigar! That is indeed how the Dirtbags got their name, in what was I believe Dave Snow's first year as manager. This is gotta be the Dirtbags year, too. The two-headed pitching monster that is Abe Alvarez and Jared Weaver should be able to quell any offense and our hitting is getting more and more clutch.
Funny thing at the Long Beach regional in Saturday was that every time they announced a non-Big Six school beating a football school (such as when UC Riverside was leading Stanford) there was much rejoicing, EXCEPT when the Fullerton scores where read.
The rivalry lives. F*** Long Beach. And Dave Snow was a CSUF assistant before taking over Long Beach, which probably meant he brought over that gritty, hard-working image over (course I could be wrong).
Go Bucks! Todd's done a great job with the program - it's a shame that they've always stumbled in the post season. I'm not a baseball fan, but if I was still in school I probably would've tried to go - the last OSU baseball game I went to was a double-header in May where it snowed... in the old baseball "stadium". The newer park is much much nicer.
That's the spirit! Yes, you are. He thrived because he left Fullerton! Still, I want you guys to make it to Omaha, as well. The more of our schools there to smack the Football Ca$h schools around, the better. So, go SMS, too!
That's very kind of you since I can't root for you when Fullerton is contention. Perhaps if we weren't, I'd might be a little more sympathetic. Good luck on your series anyway.
CSUF won 5-1 against ASU and will need to win tomorrow for a trip to Omaha. ------------------------------------------- Arizona State....... 000 010 000 - 1 5 0 Cal State Fullerton. 040 000 10X - 5 9 1 -------------------------------------------
Thanks for the info on the Dirtbags. ... Here's a good preview of this weekend's Houston college baseball derby: Stakes high in Rice-UH matchup. Houston Chronicle, Brian McTaggart (who, btw, was their soccer writer before Glenn Davis). Also, a review of this season's previous five meetings between Rice and UH: UH vs. Rice. And some other preview-type info: Rice super regional. Go owls.
LSU/Baylor, game two is over with LSU winning 6-5. Great game, though I would be a bit biased, having attended nearly 60 LSU games when I got my Masters down there. That warning-track fly-out followed by a line drive that ended up about 4 inches from the pitchers' teeth was a bit more drama than I would've liked.
ASU evens up the series with Fullerton. 3rd and final decisive game tomorrow at 12:05 PST on ESPN2. Cal State Fullerton. 000 023 100 - 6 12 2 Arizona State....... 203 020 00X - 7 12 1
Houston college baseball classico all even. Game 3 on Monday at noon, central time. Saturday: Cougars Take Game One of Super Regional By 5-2 Margin. Sunday: Niemann, Sinisi Lead Owls To 10-2 Win, Evening Super Regional Series. Go owls.
Fullerton wins series against ASU and will take on LSU in Omaha. C'mon Titans! Arizona State....... 000 100 000 - 1 5 1 Cal State Fullerton. 331 000 00X - 7 10 0
GEAUX Tigers! Anyone see Sunday night? They cut to the Ohio State/Southwest Missouri game in the middle of a SWM big inning. Bases loaded, two outs, two strikes, and the pitcher doesn't get the call he wants (a breaking ball that might've been in the strike zone, but his catcher did a terrible job framing it). He ran off the mound, then got pissed. His next pitch was smacked for a grand slam, and he threw a hissy fit. Coincidently, his next fast ball also travelled about 400 for a home run, too. Back to Texas/FSU. 7th inning lead run at the plate, two strikes, two outs. The Texas pitcher thinks he catches the corner and starts off the mound. The ump disagrees. What does the Longhorn pitcher do? He taps his chest and says "my bad" to the ump. Three pitches later, the guy grounds out to end the inning. Texas goes on to win. In short, the lack of class by the OSU pitcher (that, combined with the fact that he has a candy-ass fastball) cost his team the game. Hope the kid videotaped ESPN's coverage so he could see how to handle such a situation. Lot's of good stuff yesterday -- not to mention NC State coming about 3 inches from winning it in the 10th, only to get lit up in the 11th.
Garrido is a mad genius. That is baseball coaching at its best. The guy clearly clearly was in a groove, and a little two minute meeting with the #9 hitter and he loses it mentally. The pitcher walked something like 3 out of the next 7 batters. That was great coaching. Hookem.
Cougar High: Done. http://espn.go.com/ncaa/news/2003/0609/1565687.html Seven of the eight slots are now filled: South Carolina LSU Stripper St. Stanford Miami SW Missouri St. Rice If Texas wins tonight, they'll fill the final slot. If FSU wins, they'll play Game 3 tomorrow at noon ET.
