Anyone know where I can find a pick-up game on wednesday nights, or any other weeknight? My geographical preferences are... Arlington Northern Virginia DC Eastern Seabord If not a pickup game, then anybody know of a team that needs an extra body for practices? thanks you can respond here or PM me.
The Screaming Eagles pick-up games are on Saturday mornings from 10-12 at the Thomas Jefferson community center (I think it is called Thomas Jefferson, but I could be wrong). It is located near the intersection of Glebe Rd. & Rt. 50. From that intersection go south on Glebe to the first traffic light, make a left at the light, go one block and the field will be on your left hand side.
Thanks. I pretty much always make those. I'm looking for something during the week to help keep in shape. And, thanlin, yes you have to be a Screaming Eagle. But...you can come out a couple of times and see how you like it before you have to pay. And since there are only 3-4 weekends left, I'm sure no one would mind if you came out for the rest.
Thanks--I guess I missed it this morning but I'll see what I can do about going up there next weekend.
Revelation showed up once, the man's got game! I am not sure about the regulars, nobody has ever mentioned BigSoccer (except for me).
Thanks for the kind words. My obligations to my club side (SEFC "Church") keeps me from being a regular at the pickup games.
There are pickup games on the Mall (3rd and Independence) on Wednesdays at 6. I have never been so I don't know the setup. I think they may be done for the year, but maybe in the Spring you could check it out.
These have been moved to the polo grounds which are across Independence (I think) from the Mall. The Mall fields are being taken over as the staging ground for the new WWII memorial construction equipment.
I believe it's open to anyone. I found out about the games through my league and was simply told that anyone could go to the pickup games for extra practice.
I will not be going the next two Saturdays as my U-7 team is playing both of the games at 9:45. Maybe I will catch you the Saturday after these two. Have fun!
Well I went and played today at the Screaming Eagles game at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center, and it had a lot of fun. It was nice to meet Colin and Etcheverrito as well as a lot of cool people who aren't on big soccer. Perhaps because it is late in the season, but anybody who wanted to show up and play was put on the field, so that was cool. I'm told that the games will continue as long as the weather permits. The Screaming Eagles apparently have the field reserved 10am-Noon every saturday through November, but people still show up and play after that if the weather is fine. Thanks guys, I had a good time. -Tron
Unfortunately sleep won the battle with the alarm clock this morning and I didn't wake up until 1015 (not bad for a Saturday!), but still too late to go to the games. I'll be out of town next weekend so it looks like I'll have to wait until the week after next to be up there.
I play there every Wednesday with some guys from my club team. Everyone is welcome, in fact, we could have used some bodies last week. There is usually 3 or 4 games going on at once. Usually off to the side is a group of us that pick up stragglers to get a game going. Unfortunately, the sun sets a little earlier each week, so we will probably only get 2 or 3 more weeks in before we change the clocks. You are more than welcome though. Hope to see ya there!
