Getting cantankerously drunk and making calls of your own can be fun. Just pretend to be from the party you oppose.
Just got two pro-Bush calls within the past hour, including one inviting me to a Dick Cheney event in Las Vegas, NV, which is a quite a hike from the Philadelphia suburbs. Tuesday can't come soon enough.
Three calls today (that I know of - more may have called and not left a message), including one from George the Elder at about 4:30, and one from a volunteer in Texas just now referencing how close the polling is in Ohio and to get out and vote if I haven't already. Crazy.
I've gotten calls from Hilary Clinton, Joe Lieberman, Paul Newman&Joanne Woodward telling me to vote for Dianne Farrell for the House of Representatives here in CT who is going against Chris Shays....McCain and Guiliani called for him. But for the first time, he's in a little trouble. I hope he pulls through, as he helped me out a few years ago when I was having some red tape trouble with a government agency.
Just got another call from the GOP. This one claimed the Dems were trying to steal the election (that exact terminology was used at least twice) with voter fraud, intimidation, and "dirty tricks". Then they proceeded to claim that if Kerry won he'd immediately raise taxes. Disgusting.
All of the calls I got in CA were for local/state elections. Here are the calls we got: * Arnold asking us to vote no on Proposition 66 (reforms the "3 strikes" law, Arnold says it will immediately let rapists out of prison) * Arnold asking us to vote no on Proposition 72 (changes the state health care laws, Arnold says it's bad for business) * Arnold asking us to vote for Republican Steve Poizner in the local state assembly race. My wife and I are now on a first name basis with Arnold. * John McCain asking us to vote for Steve Poizner * Some lady I don't know called twice to ask us to vote for Steve Poizner. The Steve Poizner race is a rare opportunity for the Republicans to pick up a state assembly seat which has been Democratic for a very long time, so they were going all out and getting the big moderate republican names to call over the last few days.
I got two calls today. The first from George Sr. who said I needed to get out and support the Republican party with my friends, family members and neighbors to help Bush win re-election. This is the same call I got today on my answering machine when I got back from work and the gym. And they say that Democrats play dirty, I love lies and deception left on my machine from "Tim" at the RNP
Tim's a moron. That much we can be certain of... Actually I think CNN just called it. "Tim's a moron"
