Not exactly. The Monsoon are having trouble finding a place to play in the semi-pro PASL-Pro league. For unknown reasons, they cannot get a lease to use Veterans Memorial Coloseum (at the State Fair Grounds). I don't know if the mgt of Veterans is being unreasonable or wants them to play in a "real" league or if they want too much money or what the problem is. So now the Monsoon is talking about buying a rink and placing it in Phoenix Greyhound Park. That seems like a great location for outdoor soccer, but I cannot figure out how they plan to make it work for "indoor" soccer. Their webpage is http://www.phxmonsoon.com
So any updates on the Monsoon? I tried to look up the PASL pro league, but their website is down. Did the league fold?
PASL-Pro is alive and well. The Monsoon held a 2nd round of tryouts and now have a player pool numbering 33. League play begins in November for PASL-Pro, April for NPSL outdoor. The team is also involved in the promotion of the upcoming friendly between Club America and Morelia at the U of P Stadium on July 10.
Ok, so they are an expansion PASL-Pro team this year, are they playing in the NPSL nest season? Just asking since you mentioned the NPSL.
I take it this team is shuttered & closed down after they lost all there money on the Club America friendly?
So their website says opening day is November 5th, I guess it's time to see if this team sinks or swims.
Looks like the first step is going to take place. Phoenix needs a professional soccer team, this is at least a start. Are they going to be able to make the next step to the NPSL?
$20-$60 seems like a lot for this, I understand they're trying to make business sense, but they need to make this super cheap and develop habits of people going to the games first. Also I click to add a second ticket and it says that I already have the maximum available at 1.
Furthermore, what are the Monsoon's current stadium plans for NPSL? Are they still looking at the dog track and enclosing the stands?
Pretty good article. http://arizona.sbnation.com/2011/11...oning-out-details-as-opening-night-approaches
The Phoenix Monsoon won their inaugural match with a 5-4 victory over Revolucion Tijuana at the American Sports Center in Avondale. The game was tied after full time, but the Monsoon took only 1:13 to score in overtime to take the win. The same teams play on Sunday at 12:30pm at the same venue.
Great question. I'll draw a picture of the scene and you can guestimate from there. One side of field available for seating. Single seats were lined up along entire length of field. All filled. Behind them were 7 4-tier bleachers that were mostly filled. Roughly 20 bar type tables with 2-3 chairs per table were filled. So available seating was nearly full. Head count? I dunno. <grin>
Not a good outing for the Monsoon. http://soccersceneusa.blogspot.com/2011/11/express-rolls-past-monsoon-for-4-0.html
At the door. After going 0-fer on two road trips, the Monsoon play at The American Sports Center in Avondale on Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 2pm against the Anaheim Bolts.
