Well I got a job at Ben and Jerry's and seeing how one flavour is named Phish Food and seeing as the band was on a classic Simpsons (Tokin' Homer), I thought I'd download some stuff off Kazaa. These guys seem cool; I downloaded "Run Like an Antilope" and "FluffHead", plus their HILARIOUS cover of Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice". What other songs of theirs are good?
If you want to listen to Phish at their best, pick up their double cd "A Live One." Phish is one of those bands that is best heard live, and that is their best live album. JMac
Phish would be a better band if their fans weren't all obnoxious drug-addled autism patients who haven't showered in a month. The only act that has worse fans is Dave Matthews.
I've heard a few of their songs and they were surprisingly good, but their fans are such a turnoff that I could never really get into this band.
"The Divided Sky" is one of the best songs I have ever heard. On the merits of that song alone, I consider Phish an amazing band.
As an avid, non-drug using, showering, short-haired, non-dreadlock having, good-job holding Phish fan I know exactly what you mean to a certain extent (although I never let others deter my tastes for something I like.) I've seen the band 25 times or so (beginning in the early 90s) and as time wore on, the fans got more and more annoying and I started going less and less. Their "Live Phish" series is great. Check out the volume from Fukuoka, Japan or the one from Noblesville, Indiana. Those are some great shows. I would skip "A Live One" since it is a conglomeration of stuff. I prefer to listen to whole shows. I rarely listen to their studio stuff besides "Billy Breathes" and "Story of the Ghost." To me, best songs are "Taste", "Mike's Song" "Weekapaug Groove" "Tube" "First Tube" "Run Like An Antelope" "Reba" "Guyute" and way too many others to count. They had 300 to 400 songs that they were using on any given tour. They played tons more over their whole history, but on any given tour, they would play several hundred different tunes...that's why they were so fun live...the freshness of each show. Plus, you've got to love a band that does insulting/mocking covers of bands like: Oasis, The Spin Doctors, Prince, Neil Diamond, Lynard Skynard, Will Smith, Gary Glitter, Van Halen, etc.
They're back After a two year hiatus, the band released this today. http://www.phish.com/print/news_print.html I've been to Hampton twice, but never to the Garden. This should be a great run.
Those tickets at MSG will be some of the hardest tickets in the world to get. I went to the NYE '96 in Boston and we got lucky buying tickets from some guy in the parking lot in Philadelphia (thankfully they were real!) We did something like 5 or 6 mail orders each and couldn't get tickets. I can't imagine what its going to be like getting these. Hampton is going to be almost as difficult since its a three night run. Good luck getting them, I know I'm going to be trying too.
I hate bands that insult/mock Van Halen. But I like the song Fee. Daniel from Montreal, download Fee off the Internet - I did so a couple of weeks ago. If you only ever hear one song by Phish (I hate their name, too), it should be this one.
I don't know how many times I've seen this, but it still annoys the hell out of me. It's not Phish. It's a band from Austin, Texas called the Gourds that is doing that cover of Gin and Juice. http://www.auschron.com/issues/dispatch/2000-06-16/music_dancing.html and the Gourds are a way better, more interesting band than Phish.
Yeah, its not Phish doing that. That would be quite an accomplishment to be more interesting than Phish, I love them so much because they encompass, rock, jazz, bluegrass, classical music, metal, humor, seriousness, the whole gamut.
I know I shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but it is hard to believe that this guy has done anything more interesting and talented than Trey Anastasio:
