Since Earnie is really changing the culture and it feels like a new era began this year, maybe its time to retire the Doop song. I know, I know crazy thought. But maybe.........
I don't know...........7 seasons in, and this is really the Union's one unique thing in this town. Oh sure the Flyers used it for a bit after they saw how popular it was at Union games...........but it's kind of The Union's thing in the U.S.
Kind of expected this exact reaction. I guess I'm an 'out with the old' type. I would like to exercise all reminders of the Sak era and turn the page, but I understand. I always found it funny how a suggestion from Novak has turned into something so persistent while at the same time the RE (and team occasionally ) has tried so hard to make the four leaf clover song into a thing with negligible results . I like the four leaf clover song and wish it would stick ( moving it away from DURING the match would help tremendously IMO ) Like I said in title, just throwing it out there
Problem with 4LC was forcing it at 20:10. Just let it be organic, use it any time. Would be good in those second half periods when everyone is a bit bored and other random songs have been used.
That's fine. I also don't think we've been around long enough for out with the old. The 4LC 20:10 effort was a bit much, especially with so many people who show not steeped in the "history" of the club to be zoned in to start singing celebrating the first season. I get the appeal when BPL clubs do something for ol' #__ and sing/pray/hold hands at the appointed minute. I was at an Eintracht Braunschweig match and they sing "Deutsche Meister" at the 67' for their 1967 championship season. At first I thought it was cool, then it just reminds me of the Flyers trotting out the '74 team or the Eagles and their "Last Surviving Member of the 1960 champions team'. Meh, rather watch mites on ice or the frisbee dog at halftime. Sorry, went off the rails there at the end. Where was I?
I think right before kickoff ( similar to You'll Never Walk Alone ) or right after. The crowd is at a fever pitch and not 100% wrapped up in the action yet. - onion beat me to it. The problem with right before is they play the MLS- dictated music ( Machine Head , etc. ) At least I think I recall that it was MLS dictated.
The market has spoken. Kk had mentioned about Novak creating doop here. So what? Just cause he did it does it make it a bad idea. The fans have pretty much took it over at this point. On the other hand 4lc was a good idea that just did not work and in fact I think the team putting those ads up made it worse (almost like telling people to do the wave)
There are a number of songs ("Just Can't Get Enough" I'm looking at you) that should get the axe long before "Doop."
problem is there is a lot of songs out there and most people don't want to be bothered to try and learn them. I tried to jump on the "Tranquillo's on fire" song that 140 started last game and it was all crickets in 138
dont worry, we will do it again this game also, there seems to be a lot of tourists in between us. in TRE for the cheaper seats
The more the merrier....all we want is TRE to be jamming at full voice and to infuse in some new fun!!! Green Day Basket Case is a winner!!!!
Well, lets get it going....spread the word. Additionally 3 little birds when Dre makes a save is a winner.
That Scooter song may be the only positive contribution of Nowak's legacy at this club. Even despite the fairly amateur rap bars in the song, I still like it!
The chorus is generally OK for chanting but my problem is they do the verse too. I don't care how clever the lyrics are -- if the verse is too low & loose for chanting it just sounds like a bunch of people chatting with each other. I don't even know if the changed lyrics *are* clever because I can't understand a single word.
I've said this a bunch of times but it's crazy to me that a bunch of songs about unions haven't been adapted for the U. there are tons of them, they're generally made to be simple and to sung by crowds, and they're about sticking together. seems like a natural fit. they play that Strawbs song, but so many of them are better (and with less 70s style production)
I always thought right after the kickoff to start the second half, since the game has started and is established but there's no corner/free kicks, no goals or fouls to boo or cheer. The major problem with that is too many people might still be coming back from the john/beer line.
