i'll drink to that! i just had a pale ale finish and i downed about a gallon of it myself. it's around 7.5% holy crap i'm whacked. but still typing well.
that last bit could work for a couple of things i noticed that a lot of places in the area are offering a far wider selection of beers, even if they aren't local or craft, than they used to. i would dare to say it's a beer rennaisance based on the local dives carrying better brews. i'm kind of surprised the article didn't mention flying fish. or have they become too big?
Philadelphia is probably the most beer-conscious city in the country in terms of being able to go into most any place and get something good. Flying Fish for whatever reason has become the redheaded stepchild of local craft breweries. I think it's because they don't do much experimenting and don't do many styles (though that is changing...a big part of the problem is capacity, they've not been able to meet demand for years now).
I thought they were talking about KnightofNi. great article. I could really go for a Duvel and some mussels right now. nom nom nom
now i'm hungry...and thirsty...and sober! i thought flying fish had a decent line-up. most makers only make a handful of styles. i'd rather have them make 2-3 styles really well than 10 mediocre ones. the redheads are starting to amass. there may be a ginger uprising if you don't watch it hugo
Re: "Matchday Experience" Wow, I guess if you're not spending $7.50 a pint you can't satisfy some people
Re: "Matchday Experience" Is 2 years too early to start a thread about what kegs should be at the tailgate? my votes: Lionshead Lager a local ale (does Hop Devil come in a keg?) I'm going to love these tailgates.
Re: "Matchday Experience" Hopdevil, along with the more popular Victory brews, comes in 1/2, 1/4, and 1/6 kegs. Golden Monkey at a tailgate. Yummy.
Re: "Matchday Experience" i agree with you on the elitist attitude, it just bothers me. however, i decided long ago that since i was no longer in college and could afford it, i'm not buying crappy beer unless i have to. ohh and boddingtons is only $5.50/pint if you guys are packing hoppy beers, i'm bringing something else. :-x
Re: "Matchday Experience" I've learned that something can be hoppy without bitter. Example: Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. It has the flowery aroma and taste of V.H.D. without being off the IBU charts. (Source: JPIZZ)
Re: "Matchday Experience" 60 minute might be the best IPA out there (not that I've tried them all). Great stuff. Dogfish Head is the best thing about Rehobeth Beach.
Re: "Matchday Experience" Go to the Beer threads! Interested parties are going to miss out on this dialog. Mod!
Re: "Matchday Experience" Never! I vote for Victory Festbier. Best local beer, hands down, and only $50 for a sixtel...
& angryhugo's: "golden Monkey at a tailgate. Yummy" mmmmmmmmn. My favorite local ale is Yards ESA, after all this time. Especially if I find it on cask. (then again, I am partial to English ales. And men. )
