Derek Phillips left SV Wehen, where he just had two games, and signed with TuRU Düsseldorf. Düsseldorf is first ranked in D5.

D5? Yikes, maybe i am wrong, but D5 sounds pretty obscure to me...

Well, if Landon said D4 was at the level of his high school soccer, is D5 equivalent to JV soccer?

I don't know, JV soccer is not very good. One would think that D5 has to be better then JV soccer.

I think a lot of times what they say about Americans and sarcasm is true. You honestly think the top amatuer level in Germany is on par with US highschool soccer?

Redlands East High School would kill TuRU Düsseldorf. How do I know?

    1. I've seen both teams play extensively.

    2. I have no grip on reality.

Anyway, I don't believe Landon was serious and I truly hope nobody took him seriously. That said, I wonder how a top D5 team matches up with Derry City, where he played before joining SV Wehen...

Was this a loan? He must have thought he was moving forward before he left Ireland, but I'm not so sure anymore.

Bruce, cap him now anyway just to be sure.

Yeah....and Ian Bishop said MLS is below the English 2nd division.

Taking the word of disgruntled players at face value isn't exactly the best idea...

Well for what it is worth we had a player on our high school team that only played in blow outs who went on to play D4 in Germany for 2 years in 1992 and 1993.

Also had a club player from our team that went to play in D3 in Germany for 2 years over 93-94 named Chris Davis. Chris was in a lot of newspaper clippings (well at least he sent me a lot) where they were calling him the "American Rocket" because he was about as fast as they come. For what it is worth he felt most players from our club team would have been able to hold down starting spots in D3 Germany. Of course we did have 2 all conference NCAA players, two central defenders who were starters for Duke and Wake Forest, a player who went on to play pro in Hungary, a player who signed with a 2nd division Spanish side but never got off the reserves so he came home, and a player who played first division in Argentina so take that for what its worth 8)

I don't want to argue with anything about your statements, you just got to be aware of the time you're talking about. The current D3 with two divisions only exists since 2000. Before there were a few years with four third divisions, and until the mid 90s (not sure about the exact year) there were about ten third divisions. Naturally the level of play is lower the more third divisions you have.

No problem Olaf...let me see if I can figure out what club Chris played for and maybe we can see where they are now or were then or whatever. Might take a bit 8)

Hmmm neither of those were from the 93-94 season, I'll try to track down who he was playing for then.

    Thanks though 8)
