Missing notable veterans : Neil Etheridge, Holtmann, Ott brothers, reichelt, sato, maranon.

The new recruit Arribas was also not included probably because his passport is not available yet.

15 to 16 of those listed are also eligible to play for the U23 team to the SEA Games next year.

If only a large chunk of Azkals could play in the United States or Canada. They’d have a great level of play and be free all winter to play in the AFF Cup.

That would be a great preparation, but I think for financial reasons they are only limiting themselves to friendlies in Asia.

Unlike the women's team, most of the Philippine men's football team are based in Europe or Asia. They are also prioritizing younger players(except for Schrock) so established veterans like Etheridge and Holtmann who play in higher leagues in Europe were not included in the invited list.

The Combine will be on Dec. 11 at Skyline College in San Bruno, California from 9AM to 2PM.

    Register at tinyurl.com/pfltryout

It will also double as a tryout for eligible Fil Ams looking to play for the Philippine national football team.

I'm guessing you are assuming this doubles as a tryout for the NT. Looking at the information and watching the video, it does not mention the national team at all. I would think they would promote it more if it was also a national team tryout.

One of the teams ADT(Azkals Development Team) is the U23 men's national development team that plays in the top tier senior men's league that competes in U23 tournaments. Their manager is also the men's national team manager so I am sure he will be on the lookout for prospects.

The national team mostly recruits European prospects so it is good they are looking at the US pool as well now.

PFF names Josep Ferré Ybarz Coach of the Azkals. With more than a decade of coaching experience under his belt, former FC Barcelona Academy coach Josep Ferré Ybarz takes the top coaching job for the Philippines National Football Team.
According to Azkals Team Manager Dan Palami, Coach Ferré's experience in Barcelona and various professional clubs "is suitable for our mostly young and dynamic squad."
He began with stints as academy director of FC Barcelona Escola, Kitchee SC (Hong Kong), and Buriram United (Thailand). Coach Coco then became head coach of Nike Japan; Thai Premier League clubs Ratchaburi FC and Bangkok Glass FC; before moving to FC Bayamón of Puerto Rico.
The 39-year-old Spanish coach from Catalonia then returned to Asia as an assistant in Quess East Bengal (India) before taking the reins for Barça Foundation of FC Barcelona.

Tomorrow will have his first game against Vietnam. Interesting to see how his relation with veteran Schrock will be. He's in the preliminary squad.

Except for Schrock it is a very young squad lacking experience in international football so I would temper your expectations. They are looking to build up the core of this young squad for future competitions rather than trying to win the AFF Cup.

We'll see. Tabinas returned after some time. There is Mendoza who was good in AFC Cup, Nyholm and Aguinaldo as well.

It is mostly a young lineup with a few veterans. It is nice to see Paul Tabinas joining his brother Jefferson on defence. Nyholm and Mendoza are not listed.

    FT Vietnam 1-0 Philippines

Decent result against one of the favorites to win the AFF Cup. Almost a draw. Vietnam needed Extra Time to score their goal.

It was a nice performance defensive-wise,especially in the second half. Jefferson Tabinas was very solid at the back... J League level after all.

At least they are getting a lot of raves for their physique and height in Cambodia compared to other SEA players. Other teams are already wary of being physically overpowered by them and are emphasizing playing a technical style to counteract that.

It will be a huge disappointment if they don't win Cambodia even away from home. Camdodia can't play a technical style because simply don't have the players to play out from the back even if Honda Keisuke wants this. I've seen them numerous times under him and simply are not good enough.

Their big problem is their lack of training time together under their new coach who was only hired last week with only one international friendly under their belt. It might affect their team chemistry moving forward.

At least the Philippines had one friendly a close loss to Vietnam. Indonesia(one of the teams in our groups stage in the AFF Cup) did not have any this December. Indonesia's federation's antics in the past hasn't exactly endeared them with other AFF nations even threatening to leave the AFF at one point.

In response, India has expressed interest in joining the AFF in the next cycle when Indonesia threatened to leave.

The Philippines enter the tournament under freshly appointed coach Josep Ferre with a new-look squad that features only four players with more than 14 caps.

Appointed less than two weeks ago, the Spanish coach said he is excited by the opportunity to lead this revamped Azkals side.

“I think we have made a decision to build this squad around a group of young players with some more experienced ones as well and for me this is my first time in charge of a national team so I’m also very excited,” he said.

The Philippine's lack of preparation, youth and inexperience showed as Cambodia defeated the Philippines 3-2 in an upset.

The last time the Philippines lost to Cambodia was 20 years ago in 2002 so this is definitely a massive upset.

The Philippines did have 70% possession of the ball but falling 2 goals down in the first half was just too much for the offensively limited Philippine lineup to overcome.

The commentators did say that like other AFF countries, Cambodia have started using players from Europe to reinforce their team so that might have contributed to the upset.

Brilliant midfield plays led by veteran Stephen Schrock but our defenders were sloppy and disorganized, while the strikers lacked composure.

Well at least the women have something to look forwards to in February in preparation for the World Cup.

    Pinatar Cup February 2023

    Wales
    Philippines
    Scotland
    Iceland

Good preparation for the Philippines since these teams will mimic the European teams plus New Zealand they will be facing in their group at the World Cup including a Scandinavian team(Iceland) in the top 16 rankings that plays a similar style to Norway.

The Philippine Women’s National Team will see action in a competition in Europe for the first time as the Filipinas vie in the Pinatar Cup 2023 from 15 to 21 February 2023 in San Pedro del Pinatar in Murcia, Spain.

Sustaining their buildup for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Filipinas will be facing higher-ranked European sides Wales, Scotland and Iceland in the Pinatar Cup 2023.

The Filipinas’ first match will be against 32nd ranked Wales on 15 February. Their next opponent will be 25th ranked Scotland on 18 February, before they wrap up their campaign against 16th ranked Iceland on 21 February. All matches will be played at the Pinatar Arena Football Center in San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia, Spain.

Scotland qualified to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019, but missed out on next year’s tournament. Wales and Iceland have yet to qualify for the FWWC.

“Competing in the Pinatar Cup is a great opportunity for the Filipinas to familiarize themselves with European teams ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” said PFF president Mariano Araneta, Jr.

“It’s definitely a big help to the team’s preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.”

PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes expressed gratitude to tournament organizer IAST Sports for including the Filipinas in the roster of teams for this year’s competition. The FIFA window in February is a Type II window where teams can play a maximum of three matches.

“We thank IAST Sports, led by its CEO David Vailing, for extending their invitation to the Philippine Women’s National Team in the Pinatar Cup,” said Gastanes. “It will be exciting to see our Filipinas play against strong teams from Europe.”

Filipinas team manager Jefferson Cheng said the matches will allow the coaching staff led by Alen Stajcic to gauge the team’s readiness in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“We are leveling up our preparations for the FWWC and the team will benefit playing against stronger more experienced teams,” said Cheng.

The Filipinas will be playing in Europe for the first time since June 2022 when they won back to back friendly matches against Bosnia Herzegovina in Slovenia.

The Filipinas are slated to face Switzerland, co-hosts New Zealand, and Norway in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Huge disappointment indeed. Till yesterday Cambodia defeated only Timor and Laos in the AFF Suzuki Cup, yesterday's win being their most important victory. It was well deserved despite Schrock missed a 1v1 situation when the score was 2-2. The defense was so compact against Vietnam, but now...

It is really sad. They actually have in terms of pro contracts and experience the most expensive and accomplished team in the AFF with Bundesliga's Gerritt Holtmann, English Championships Etheridge, Swiss Challenge League's Michael Kempter and a few other Euro high level players leading the pack.

They also have the MLS veterans Baldisimo brothers, Kadin Chung or Adian Daniels, Patrick Metcalfe in Norway and goalscorer Phoenix Patterson who just signed with English League One club Fleetwood Town FC.

None of those players were invited or were available for this minor tournament.

There were also former Euro top flight players who now ply their trade in Thailand who were not released by their Thai clubs for this tournament.

The manager for the team has run out of funds and decided to go with a young inexperienced core instead most of which plays in the local Philippine league, hired an inexperienced coach a week and a half before the tournament and had only one friendly to help prepare the team.

The Philippines redeemed themselves at the AFF Championship with a 5-1 win over Brunei. However because of their surprising loss to Cambodia, they need to win their final 2 games against Indonesia and Thailand to advance beyond the group stage.

    https://www.affmitsubishielectriccup.com/2022/news/1953-report-philippines-5-1-brunei-darussalam

The Philippines bounced back from their opening-day defeat to Cambodia by posting a 5-1 win over Brunei Darussalam in their second outing in Group A of the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Friday.

In-form Kenshiro Daniels opened the scoring for Josep Ferre’s side in the seventh minute before Sandro Reyes found the second five minutes later. A left-foot stunner from Jesus Melliza and a double from substitute Sebastian Rasmussen after the interval gave the Azkals a 5-1 win as Razimie Ramlli’s goal proved a mere consolation for Brunei DS.

The result means the tightly contested Group A now has four teams level on three points as the Philippines joined Indonesia, Cambodia and defending champions Thailand among the nations to have posted a win already in the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022.
