FT Philippines 7-0 Singapore Flanigan, Annis x 2, Bolden, Eggesvik, Hawkinson, Castaneda It is nice to see Coach Staj gives some playing time to the primarily younger less experienced members of the squad and it is good to see them work on improving on keeping possession of the ball an area of the game he wants them to get better at.
Post game Press Conference Quotes “Obviously, it’s important to be on the top of the table,” said coach Alen Stajcic. “It’s where every team wants to be and we’re pleased to be there.” “We scored some good goals today. One of the parts of our game that we always said we needed to improve is on the ball. There were large chunks of that game where I thought we were good on the ball.” “It’s very important in a tournament like this where there are five games in nine days that everyone contributes. We’ve got a big squad and it’s important everyone in the squad contributes to this tournament if we’re gonna come out on top,” said the erstwhile Central Coast Mariners head coach. “I’m pleased that we could rotate a lot of new players into the team and we’re gonna continue that throughout the week and ensure that everyone gets an opportunity to put their hand up for a spot in the team long-term,” concluded Stajcic. __ Great result for the Philippines with Coach Staj giving major playing time to most of their young players including 3 teenagers 17 y.o. Flanigan and Maniti, 18 y.o Cesar, 20 y.o Frilles, 21 y.o. Alcantara and Shelton, and 22 y.o. Castaneda and Hawkinson, the Philippine's very own version of Australia's U23 squad.
FT Philippines 4-0 Malaysia Eggesvik, Guillou, Quezada, Castaneda With 1 goal and 2 assists the MVP for this match is the newcomer Eggesvik who had a huge impact in the win. Coach Staj is clearly rotating his players with a different lineup every game using the 3rd different goalkeeper in 3 games. Hawkinson sustained an injury early into the match so Eggesvik was subbed in.
FT Philippines 4-0 Malaysia Eggesvik, Guillou, Quezada, Castaneda With 1 goal and 2 assists MVP is the newcomer Eggesvik who had a huge impact in this win. Dominating performance with a 25-0 stat in shots for the Philippines 11 on target. Malaysia's sure handed goalkeeper along with it's park the bus mentality kept the damage to only 4 goals conceded as the Philippines had a hard time breaking thru that mass of bodies on defence.
She said in the post game interview that she was disappointed they didn't score more goals. With 25 shots attempted and 11 on goal with some hitting the posts, I don't blame her.
FT Philippines 4-1 Indonesia Tahnis Bolden x 3 Philippines overcame a mistake by the goalie Palacios in the first half to score 4 straight goals in the 2nd half with a hat trick by Bolden winning Women of the Match honors after the game. As Bolden mentioned during the post game interview she could have actually scored more with a couple of near misses but she was happy with the hat trick. This is the 3rd time within the past few months that they have come back from a deficit to win the game which shows their resilience and determination to win.
FT Philippines 4-0 Vietnam Philippines eliminates defending champion Vietnam(a team that hasn't conceded a goal all tournament long) decisively as they make the finals of the AFF Championship for the first time in a match between 2 teams that have qualified to the World Cup next year. 2 more goals by Bolden giving her 7 goals total to lead the Golden Boot award and she could have scored a couple more tonight actually. She was given deservedly the Player of the Match tonight. The Filipinas didn't let up trying to score more goals all the way to the end with a dominating performance statistically (14-6 advantage in shots and 9-2 shots on target).
The Philippines win the 2022 AFC Women's Championship with a commanding 3-0 win over Thailand with goals coming from Guillou, Cowart and Bolden.
The PFF has announced that they have invitations from 22nd ranked New Zealand and 37th ranked Costa Rica for friendlies. Coach Allen said that they only need four to eight points to go from the fourth to the third pot for the WC draw which will be held in October so they need to arrange friendlies with higher ranked nations in order to hopefully gain points before the draw to get a better seeding. They already improved on their rankings by defeating higher ranked Vietnam(#32) 4-0 and Thailand (#43) 3-0 which should reflect in the next release of the FIFA World rankings but they need a few more positive results to be placed in the third pot of the WWC draw.
Sofia Harrison, one of the Philippine Women's National Football Team’s main defenders, signed a contract with #Bundesliga side SV Werder Bremen Frauen “We wanted to add a left-footed player to our squad in the full-back position so that we can always react to all situations that can arise during a season. We are therefore glad that we were able to sign a player with potential in Sofia,” stated the translated comments of club official Birte Brueggemann. “Our squad planning is now complete.” For her part, Harrison is excited about what lies ahead, “Having the opportunity to play in the women’s Bundesliga is a big step for me. I hope that I can help the team with my skills to achieve our goals.” The 23-year-old left-back is the latest player after the likes of Quinley Quezada, Jessika Cowart, Sarina Bolden and Jaclyn Sawicki to sign with a top tier club abroad in Europe, Japan and Australia after demonstrating their skills at the international level with the PWNT to join Katrina Guillou and now Meryl Abrahamsen Rosales Serrano who are currently playing top flight football abroad in Europe already. She also recently got engaged a few weeks ago. Well we still don't have Aston Villa's Mayumi Pacheco as starting left back on the PWNT since she is still part of the English national team pool but at least we will have a left back with pro experience playing top flight football in the Frauen Bundesliga in Germany in Sofia Harrison.
The Philippine U20 men's team won over Afghanistan 1-0 and was leading Thailand 2-0 before giving up 3 goals in the 2nd half in the AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers. Unfortunately they lost the first game to Oman so they were eliminated. I think if they trained earlier than 2 weeks before the tournament and had the same friendlies like other teams they would have done better but it was still a good performance overall. There is a lot of good younger talent going up the ranks domestically and grassroots development seem to be improving. The PFF just need to give their national teams more time to prepare before fielding them in competitions.
Filipinas set for friendly matches vs Costa Rica The Philippine Women’s National Team will travel to Costa Rica in the next FIFA international window in October for a pair of friendly matches against the Costa Rica Women’s National Team. The Filipinas are setting up camp in the Costa Rican capital of San Jose as they are slated to play La Sele at 7 p.m. on 7 October 2022 (9 a.m. 8 October 2022 in Manila) at the Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium. The two teams meet again on 11 October 2022 to cap the Filipinas’ 11-day camp with kick off time and venue to be announced at a later date. The player list for the camp, possible broadcast and livestream details for the matches will also be announced soon. PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta welcomed the development, saying these are the types of matches that the Filipinas need in their buildup for the World Cup next year. “We are pleased that the Filipinas are getting these type of matches as they continue their preparations for the World Cup,” said Araneta. PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes thanked the Costa Rican Football Association for inviting the Filipinas for the friendly matches and for hosting the camp, which is an integral part of the preparation for the World Cup next year. “We thank the Costa Rican Football Federation for their assistance and cooperation for making the camp and the matches possible at a time when World Cup-bound teams are also busy setting up camps and matches,” said Gastanes. The trip to Costa Rica comes on the heels of the Filipinas’ two-week camp in California from the last week of August until 6 September when they played New Zealand in a friendly match at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, California. “The PWNT is fortunate to have a very supportive team manager in Jeff Cheng, who has been looking after the Filipinas in the buildup to the World Cup,” said Gastanes. “We appreciate Mr. Cheng’s continuous support to the Filipinas.” Team manager Jeff Cheng, who has been at the helm of the PWNT program since the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, stressed the importance of having as many training camps as possible under coach Alen Stajcic and his staff. “The team needs as much time together as the players’ schedules will allow, and the more competitive matches we play, the more team cohesion and chemistry will improve,” said Cheng. He added, “We assure the Philippine football community that the whole PWNFT—management, coaching staff and plays alike—continues to do its best to train and prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year, and the PFF is committed to find ways for the team to get more matches against quality opponents. Costa Rica qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, after finishing in fourth place in the CONCACAF Women’s Championship in Mexico last July. La Sele are No. 37 in the FIFA rankings, 16 spots ahead of the Filipinas. Stajcic stressed the need for the Filipinas to play against higher-ranked nations and teams in different confederations as part of the preparations for the World Cup. “The friendly matches against Costa Rica in October give us a chance to experience different styles of play after playing against New Zealand early this month,” said Stajcic. “What’s important for us is to learn and build on these experiences which will be a huge factor in our World Cup campaign next year.” Stajcic said the goal is to continue improving with the team waiting for the outcome of the official draw of the FIFA Women’s World Cup next month. “We improved a lot but there’s no doubt that expectations and goals are higher and we know how hard it is to keep climbing so we’re working hard trying to reset our goals to keep striving for more success,” said Stajcic. “It’s just continued growth for us. We’re heading down the right track but definitely we’re not getting complacent on thinking this is enough. We want more.” https://pff.org.ph/2022/09/20/filipinas-set-for-friendly-matches-vs-costa-rica/ Hopefully Meryll Serrano Abrahamsen who is usually a starter for Arna-Bjørnar Fotball in the Norwegian top flight would have recovered from her injury by then to play in October along with the other new players at the September training camp who are still awaiting their passports one of which is a pro and starter in the Danish top flight.
The Philippines will know the countries it will face in its historic FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance next year when the official draw for the tournament is staged at the Aotea Center in downtown Auckland on Saturday. Having qualified following a semifinal finish in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in India early this year, the Filipinas are one of the five debutantes in the most prestigious women’s football tournament in the world that will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20, 2023. “It’s a really exciting time for Philippine football as we will finally determine which teams we will be facing in our first FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance,” said PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta. “To be part of the tournament is already a tremendous honor for the country, but we also have to dream big and come up with a good showing,” he added. From 24 teams, the 2023 tournament has been expanded to 32 countries with 29 already punching their tickets to the competition. Three more countries will qualify through the inter-continental playoff in February next year. PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes said the draw will help the federation plot the remaining months in preparing the team for the World Cup. “We will definitely pull out all the stops to ensure that the team will go into the World Cup as prepared as possible,” Gastanes said. PWNT team manager Jefferson Cheng and head coach Alen Stajcic will be in attendance for the draw that will be graced by no less than FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The 29 qualified teams and three playoff tournament placeholders have been placed into four pots of eight teams each, based on the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings. With its No. 53 ranking, the Filipinas have been placed in Pot 4 together with four African qualifiers. The three placeholders for the playoff tournament winners will be allocated to Pot 4. FIFA’s general principle in the tournament states that teams from the same qualifying zone cannot be drawn into the same group, except for Europe. This means the Filipinas cannot be in a group with fellow AFC teams Australia, Korea Republic, Japan, China and Vietnam. With 11 teams from Europe (possibly 12 pending inter-confederation play-off results), each group will have a minimum of one team from UEFA with three (and potentially four) groups having two European teams. Teams will be randomly drawn into eight groups, A through H, with each group containing four teams. Each group will contain one team drawn at random from each pot, except for New Zealand and Australia, which will head Groups A and B, respectively. The other teams in Pot 1 are top-ranked United States, No. 2 Sweden, third-ranked Germany, No. 4 England, fifth-ranked France and sixth-ranked Spain. Pot 2 is composed of Canada (No. 7), Netherlands (No. 8), Brazil (No. 9), Japan (No. 11), Norway (No. 12), Italy (No. 14), China (No. 15) and Korea Republic (No. 17). Denmark (No. 18), Switzerland (No. 21), Republic of Ireland (No. 24), Colombia (No. 27), Argentina (No. 29), Vietnam (No. 34), Costa Rica (No. 37) and Jamaica (No. 43) are in Pot 3. The other teams in Pot 4 are Nigeria (No. 45), South Africa (No. 54), Morocco (No. 76), Zambia (No. 81).
It is official. The Philippines were drawn in Grp A with New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland which is I think is a good group for the Philippines to be in comparatively. The Philippines nearly defeated New Zealand in a recent friendly so it is a team they could potentially have a win over. They just need to score an upset from one of the other 2 European teams to advance which is going have tall odds which I hope they can overcome.
Here is the official schedule for the PWNT to next years WWC: Group stage is going to be entirely in New Zealand.
11/12/2022 - CARTAGENA. The Cartagena Football Club player Óscar Arribas has been summoned by the Philippine national team and will go to the concentration that the Asian team will take from November 13 to 19 . The 24-year-old footballer from Madrid - he was born in Parla on October 22, 1998 - has received a call from the federation of the country whose nationality he also has due to his origins. The call prevents Luis Carrión ,coach of Efesé, from having Arribas in this Sunday's game at the Club Deportivo Alfaro from Rioja , corresponding to the first round of the Copa del Rey . In principle, the attacker, who this season has participated in 11 LaLiga SmartBank games, three of them as a starter, and has scored a goal in the 2-1 victory against Albacete Balompié , would be available for the match to be played on Monday 21 in the stronghold of Club Deportivo Mirandés , the Anduva stadium, within the sixteenth day of the league championship. https://murciaplaza.com/oscar-arribas-del-cartagena-es-citado-para-una-concentracion-con-filipinas
