    Stanford's Elise Evans is listed among the top 11 players in the NCAA list I mentioned which is impressive considering she is only a freshman.

    Yeah I think they have 4 or 5 players eligible to play for the Philippines. You might want to inform them of the opportunity in January for the U17 and U20 identfication camps in California.

    https://pff.org.ph/2022/12/30/philippine-womens-u20-and-u17-tryouts-to-start-january-2023/

    PFF invites all eligible women’s players to join in the tryouts with player requirements as follows:
    Signed and accomplished Consent and Waiver Form (for players 18 years old and above) or signed and accomplished
    Parental Consent and Waiver Form (for players below 18 years old);
    Signed and accomplished Child Safeguarding Forms – Code of Conduct, Medical Checklist, Heads Up – Concussion and
    Social Media Consent Forms;
    Copy of photo (headshot on white background, taken in the last three months);
    Copy of valid Philippine passport;
    Copy of birth certificate;
    Copy of vaccine certificate/card; and
    Accomplished player questionnaire.
    Links to the requirements are available online: PHI U17/U16 Girls National Team and PHI U20/U19 Women’s National Team
    Players must submit the above-mentioned requirements to pff.playerregs@gmail.com on or before 09 January 2023 for the United States tryouts applicants.

    I think even if you don't have a passport yet, if you have started the process at the Philippine consulate, I think you might be considered eventually. 2 players on the women's national team(Chayze Ying and Angela Beard) are in this situation and were still called up to training camp even though they still could not play in official friendlies and competitions until their Philippine passport is finished. They still were able to play in scrimmages against WPSL clubs.

    If you have any more questions, I think their point person in the US is Butchie Impelido at bimpelido@gmail.com

    There are several players on the senior women's national team pool who are age eligible for the U20 Women's national team including Kaiya Jota, Isabella Flanigan, Malea Cesar, Chantelle Maniti and possibly Chayze Ying when she gets her passport so it should be a competitive squad.

    The PWNT U20 and U17 tryouts are important since most of the future PWNT senior members are first identified in this camps. Here are pics of current PWNT players when they first tried out back in 2013.

    Some USWNT reserve players like OL Reign's Sam Hiatt also participated in this camps back when they were still 15 y.o. in 2013 before eventually being called up by the USSF for the U18 and U20 WNT.

    Many of the players attending the PWNT U20 tryouts in California are youth standouts that have verbally committed to US NCAA Division 1 schools.

    I am sure the fact that the Philippines has qualified for the FIFA World Cup this year has inspired many of them to tryout for the U17/U20 teams as well.

    Aside from age group AFC tournaments, it is possible that some of them might even be called up by the senior women's team for tournaments outside the FIFA calendar as the professional clubs our players are part of are under no obligation to release them.

    Interestingly 2 of the Philippine women's national team players in California(Kiara Fontanilla and Dominic Randle) was helping out in the tryouts serving as an inspiration for the potential new hopefuls for the U17/U20 national team.

    It wasn't too long ago when Kiara was one of those 12 y.o. youth hopefuls watching the national team in California and dreaming of joining them in a journey that took nearly a decade to accomplish(with his first cap against Australia at the Asian Cup group stage) so I am sure she is just as excited to be the inspiration for the newer generation of youth players that will hopefully join the Filipinas someday.

    PWNT Coaches Stajcic and Naz were also at the tryouts scouting players for possible inclusion to the women's national team. There are a couple of tournaments(like the SEA Games in May) that will be held outside of the FIFA window that will most likely not have the benefit of having our pros present so it is possible some of these youth players who make the grade will be called up to play in those tournaments instead particularly since women's national team Coach Alen Stajcic has a penchant for calling up promising junior players to tryout for the women's team before including 4 current players who are part of the national women's national team pool that are also eligible to play for the U20 team at the moment.

    Interestingly Ava Harrison who was a consistent and productive starter for the US U15 girls team in last year's CONCACAF U15 Championship which the US won and provided 2 assists for the US in her very first cap against the U15 Netherlands girls team and scored a goal against Germany's U15 girl's team in their Euro camp also attended the Philippine U17 girl's national team tryouts along with her sister Mia. There has been no official switch yet of course, but the fact that 2 younger sisters(Ava and Mia) tried out is very good news for the Philippine women's program. It also opens the door for their elder sister Stanford U's Nya Harrison and possibly the 3 other Fil Ams at Stanford(Maya Doms, Kellie Pagador and Madison Ayson) many of whom have played for US age group girl's teams in the past to tryout for the PWNT.

    In a surprising development PFF Sec Gen Gastanes just announced that women's coach Alen Stajcic has taken over coaching the U17 girl's team and women's assistant coach Nahuel Arrarte is taking on the U20 WNT in addition to their PWNT duties.

    Both coaches must have liked the level of talent they saw during the tryouts in California (which I heard was pretty high) in order to accept those jobs in addition to the PWNT.

    Coach Allen Stajcic in particular has a very good reputation developing young players for the Australian girl's teams in the past before becoming the Australian head women's coach so this should benefit the Philippines too. He also has an easier job getting past the first round of the AFC qualifiers as the top seed and strongest team in their group.

    Coach Arrarte has the tougher job though getting past the first round of the AFC qualifiers in March. Because the Philippines did not participate in the previous edition of the AFC U20 qualifers they were unranked and were grouped with a traditionally strong team (China) in the first round this time around. Since only one team from the group gets to advance, the Philippine U20 team will have no choice but to win against China in their very first game in the group to advance to the 2nd round of the U20 AFC qualifiers.

    Both coaches will next head to the Philippines to administer the Philippine leg of the tryouts next week.

    I just wanted to mention that Tahnai Annis, the captain of the Philippines Women's National Team seems to have recovered her form even at 33 y.o. after re-signing again with her old top flight club in Iceland which she originally led to the League Championship and the UEFA Women's Champion's League back in 2013. She has been really impressive lately for both club and country.

    Reina Bonta who graduated from Yale University and is a starter for Brazilian powerhouse Santos FC(Pele's, Neymar's and Marta's club) also made the WC roster and was showcased in various periodicals as an award winning film director and producer as well as an elite soccer player in Brazil while also being the daughter of the current Atty General of California Rob Bonta who was also a varsity soccer player at Yale U.

    [IMG]

    She has been nicknamed Reymar by her teammates in the PWNT and goes by only one name in Brazil Reina where she is a regular starter on Santos FC.
