Beard. Check. Enjoy Craft Beer. Check. Parents from Brooklyn (before gentrification). Check. First game Cosmos (difficult Orig NASL Badge). Check. Multi Euro league attendance. Check. HIPSTER LEVEL UNLOCKED Though I think if you've ever been an MLS STH you lose points and I think pro/rel here is silly. And I'm much older than millenial. I think it was Gen Y or we didn't get one because our parents were too busy enjoying being boomers to bestow generational tags. Feels like a push.
Christopher Dodson at Fansided has the Union at 11 overall on his preseason ranking. Of course this is also a direct quote from his article: "To keep teams from abusing their baby-faced backline, Jim Curtin brought in Aurelien Collin and Kai Wagner for some defensive experience and guidance. The playoff seasoning is there, just needs a little longer in the over. In the engine room, Alejandro Bedoya and Vincent Nogueira will have to find the right combinations to move the ball upfield." Dude, just STFU. Can't spell "oven" and you have no idea who is on the roster?
Gonna search for this article just to laugh at any other haphazardly put together takes it may contain.
https://genhq.com/faq-info-about-generations/ You're right, though I'm practically proto-GenX. And Dad wasn't a boomer afterall. My whole life a lie. Now who is streaming Europa League today?
Good article. I like the bit about Fabinho's kid. Also interesting that the article didn't mention Marco Fabian once.
Are the Union the 252nd best team in the world? Steel # 623? https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/global-club-soccer-rankings/?ex_cid=irpromo
As a Norwich City fan I've seen quite a few of the Championship squads that they ranked in front of the Union. Despite how harsh my criticisms of the Union are, they are definitely better than some of those squads.
Pretty cool PBS documentary about the Bethlehem Steel and soccer in the Lehigh Valley. https://www.wlvt.org/television/forged-in-steel-the-roots-of-american-soccer/
The International Champions Cup ad that has been running on ESPN the past few weeks was clearly shot at Talen, even though Talen isn't hosting any ICC matches (can't find the commercial on Youtube unfortunately).
Excited to announce that @PhilaUnion, the city of Philadelphia, and Eastern PA Youth Soccer are making a $3.5 million investment to build 15 mini pitches and 2 signature fields. pic.twitter.com/Zo8esrV2hX— Tim McDermott (@TimMcDermott6) July 17, 2019
I'm amazed I'm only learning of him for the first time! That is awesome! Is he coming back for alumni night?
Might be a few mentions of the Union, and more specifically their captain after tonight https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/08/04/goal-alejandro-bedoya-banks-opener-post-and?autoplay=true So Ale Bedoya grabbed a field-level mic after scoring his goal and shouted, live on national television:"HEY CONGRESS, DO SOMETHING. END GUN VIOLENCE NOW." My man. Need a lot more voices like his in pro sports. #DOOP #DCU pic.twitter.com/UrexCrVIx3— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) August 5, 2019 Jim Curtin on Alejandro Bedoya: “I’m on his side.” pic.twitter.com/vU2zI1gcuP— Joe Tansey (@JTansey90) August 5, 2019 Alejandro Bedoya: "Before I'm a soccer player, I'm a person" pic.twitter.com/Bc4TxnhVV2— Matthew De George (@sportsdoctormd) August 5, 2019 Quite a moment in the DC United/Philly Union MLS game. After scoring the 1st goal, Philly’s @AleBedoya17 ran to a mic on the side of the field & shouted:“Congress do something now. End gun violence, let’s go!”(Rare to see such a vocal political statement *during* a game) https://t.co/m7YwWjV2pq— Karen Travers (@karentravers) August 5, 2019 Reminder of what the same player wore after the Parkland shooting. pic.twitter.com/YJ4pwf1AFq— Dave Zeitlin (@DaveZeitlin) August 5, 2019
Fafa was just on The Fanatic morning show. The hosts are also wearing the camo jerseys. Thanks to the @PhilaUnion for hooking @975Mornings up with their military appreciation night jerseys for Sunday night! #doop pic.twitter.com/TWd6yuCUoj— 97.5 The Fanatic (@975TheFanatic) August 7, 2019
I wonder how much the Union (or MLS) gets paid by the US government for Military Appreciation Night. I think most people believe that the team does it for patriotic reasons but these nights are part of a paid government program to advertise/highlight/promote the military. Your taxpayer dollars at work,,,
Chill out. Without a pile of tax dollars to misspend who the F!@# would ever think building a soccer stadium in Chester would be a good idea.
