To get your collective minds off the impending strike, i present the following:

The Wizards have the Starting 11 Girls. There's the Dynamo Girls and the ChivaGirls. So what would your thoughts be on Philadelphia having a cheerleading or dance squad? We can show those west coast and southern teams the true beauty of pasty Mid-Atlantic girls! :D

I always enjoy watching Khano Smith specials (aka shots blasted 10 yards over the goal) fly into the group of disinterested women standing on the stage behind one end of Columbus Crew stadium.

    I voted no.

do the other MLS cheerleaders actually do things during the game, or is it purely a halftime entertainment type of thing?

i'm not sure if i'd want cheerleaders or not.. I mean soccer doesn't really have the downtime that football and basketball have where cheerleaders typically do their thing. But i assume Union will want to do SOMETHING during the half.

I do know that as an Eagles fan the cheerleaders are one way to one-up Steelers fans who just have a big chinned construction worker to look at.

This is one of those things that I don't particularly care for, but I always find it funny when people rail against them. Just like mascots, if it's something that might bring someone to the stadium who otherwise wouldn't and gets someone interested in the team, that's a good thing and more power to Union for doing it. I find cheerleaders at pro events stupid (it's completely different at college events where the cheerleaders are the classmates of the players) but some folks are entertained and their money is as good as mine. And I want Union to make money.

isn't our society great? let's put women in a situation where they are valued completely on what they look like and then get totally pissed off when people value them only based on what they look like. sounds reasonable. this is not a good idea.

no i'm pretty sure what was implied is that they will be.
if you watched the Crew CL match last week right behind one of the goals there was a platform with all the Crew Girls doing their thing.
i don't really care about cheerleaders, but they are trying to promote a "real football atmosphere" there is no need for cheerleaders.

if i wanna put hot chicks in the mix, i'll just go to risque after the match

I think young ladies in tight outfits are a good thing.

i think that i left out that they looked awful doing their thing. it was especially stupid to have them next to what looked like their supporters end.

exactly...And I haven't been to an Eagles game in ages but it feels like their cheerleaders are becoming more and more irrelevant, and I guess that could be said about American football as a whole.... They came to my uncles pub once but that was it. I've never seen them on tv or anything, maybe for a few seconds coming back from a commercial break.

Cheerleaders trying to do cheers during the game seems lame in the same way as piped in directed chants over the PA system. Drives me crazy at hockey and basketball games. It'd just be in competition with what the supporters are doing in a grassroots fan-directed way too. No.

Also, why not set up the little goals and let the kiddies play games during half-time?

whoa, do not rip on the lil' kiddies. unless you aren't being sarcastic, then ignore.. Mites on Ice is one of my favourite parts of going to Flyers games.
